Preacher curl injury... WTF happened?

I was doing 1 armed preacher curls with 45lbs, was already warmed up from ez-bar curls and felt a really odd pinch in my right arm, up by my shoulder and my whole damn arm went numb from my elbow to my finger-tips.
Me being me I kept hitting it, going down to 35lbs instead of the 45's. (<-stupid, I know!)
So did I pinch a nerve or what? My arm is not numb anymore, just sore right below my bicep... Im feeling a hell of a bruise coming on.
Anyone had this happen to them before?

hmmm... it's impossable to diagnose something like this over the internet...who knows...it could have been a small fascia tear or it could be some kind of tendon response shutting down your muscles before there was an injury.. You could be over training and your body is telling you "take a break/do something different or I'm going to have an injury"..

Try icing it regularly over the next few days and take it easy for a little while.

Thanks for the replies. At the risk of sounding like a lame suck-up, Ive always like what youve had to say, Pheezer. You seem to know whats up.
I was my whole arm going numb- not originating from the delt or elbow- but my entire arm went numb, espically in my fingertips.
Now the next day my bicep is sore on the inside part closest to my body, almost where the bicep meets the tri. Weird.
takin' it easy sucks but injuries suck even more. Today was going to be deadlift day and Im thinking I might have to take it off, instead. Theres nothing "easy" about deadlifts for rehabbing an injury.

Sounds like Thoracic Outlet Syndrome to me . This happens when you pinch the brachial/thoracic nerve bundle as it leaves the chest cavity . It happens and then just seems to go away usually, when it doesnt trigger point injections may be necessary . You typically have loss of sensation ( almost complete ) , but not overall feeling in the extremities , like your feet or hands . The difference is that tingly kinda chided feeling when you sleep on your arm for too long. The area of your arms where you complain the pinching feels like is it is also where the brachial/thoracic nerve bundle , in part ,resides as it transits to your fingertips . If the pain moves into your traps, or Neck area, i'd bet the farm thats what it is. Hope this helps.

...hmmm... I think your diagnosis is a little off... It says it is rare and is a congenital anomaly present since birth..I'm sure he would have been diagnosed before now..

Signs and tests:

Upon lifting, the arm may appear pale due to compression of the blood vessels. The arm may be smaller on the side of the symptoms, as this is a congenital anomaly (present since birth).

Tests to confirm the diagnosis include the following:

X-ray (may reveal the extra rib)
MRI (may reveal fibrous band)
Nerve conduction velocity study
Electromyography (EMG)

I got it at 24, havent had it since, I am now 31 , Never knew about it before.
never had any symptoms until the thing hit me. My right arm is slightly smaller than my left though. His symptoms sound identical to what happened to me, then my neck tightened up . I am speaking from experience , not from my medical practice :) Good post though .

I am thinking that i read Dave Mustaine from Megadeath actually also has the same affliction , in name atleast from getting shit faced with his right arm hanging over the seat back of a chair he passed out in.

BTW my arms isnt weird smaller or anything than my other one. I am certain that its a muscle belly thing, in which case its totally normal, but more likely its from too much masturbation .

Preachers tend to put my shoulders in a bad position, as my shoulders just don't feel right when I start the pulling portion of the lift, so I rarely do them. Never had an injury from them though. Best advice is to go see a doc, especially if you have insurance.

Thanks for the insightful responses.
Im unfortunatly limited to college insurance, and the last time I went in there I had been sick for a week with a flu/cold that about knocked me out and they told me to take OTC meds and drink lots of fluids.
I went the same day to a walk-in clinic and they gave me antibiotics and it was cleared up in no time.
If It gets worse or moves to neck.trap area I will grit my teeth and go see the jokers in the college medical.
My traps/neck area are not sore... my right bicep is still sore as hell but I think its fading.
I think from here out when preachers are invloved I will a) go lighter and b) quit when I hurt or feel something weird.
Lesson learned.
