Oil has many uses other than human consumption like biodeisel. I actually had an Indian manager when I worked at subway as a teen. She used to go on about how everyone in america had bad teeth and was on drugs and that doesnt happen in india. Everyone perfect teeth. Then I learned thats absolutely not true and they have just has shtty dental care.
