Reddit SST + LE? (2 Canadian Sources busted this month!)

Two Canadian labs have gone down in the past month, both sourced off Reddit.

Mission, and Alliance labs.

I have my suspicions that Reddit may be infested with LE, outlined below:

-The culture on Reddit SST with labs is they have to PM mods, show their equipment and methods, as well as keep in contact month to month. They use "Modmail" for this purpose. Modmail is not safe, nor is it secure. It has been shown before that LE can get warrants for all the info from Reddit. So basically, these labs are showing their scale and methods, as well as taking orders through a messenger system that can be easily traced by LE.

-Mods are chosen from the userbase that uses Reddit. All you have to do it post a ton, know about steroids, and be active in the community. How hard would it be for a cop to infiltrate and become a mod? Then they would be able to see everything every single lab on Reddit is doing. I PM'd a mod asking about this, and he told me to use modmail to talk about it. Modmail can be seen by all mods.

What do you think? So many busts from Reddit, it doesnt take long to start to scratch your head and wonder.

Reddit's low hanging fruit to begin with, couple that with a young crowd full of yolo'ers, they're just asking attention. Obviously LE is EVERYWHERE but some of the guys on there just make it too easy..

lots of other factors specific with the two busted labs, many which we will probably never know. I don't see a strong reason to believe it's due to reddit - and I don't even use reddit or have any interest in it.

Mission - cook and/or lab owner was living with someone who was on bail for first degree murder of her ex boyfriend (who may have been monitored for that reason), and they may have been trafficking rec drugs as well. They also used EMT.

Second lab (do we even know it's Alliance?) but assuming it is, they admitted they're a "new operation" so lack of experience raises the likelihood of various lack of safeguards. It sounds like they were ordering raws to their own address or to an address easily traceable to them. If a shipment was seized Mar 21, it doesn't take long to get a warrant and search the receiving address by Mar 29th.

Unless a reddit source is using "modmail" to email self incriminating info I don't see how it's an added risk. To think that a source posting on reddit makes them more likely to get busted than posting here on Meso or elsewhere is naive IMO.

The word "underground' at one time meant secrecy. You had to have certain connections to access certain "things". Especially controlled substances. Now everything is advertised out in the open from whores to drugs. Easy pickings for LE.

They should just let us do our gear and leave us alone we ain't hurting no body. We ain't robbing houses and shooting people for this shit and we ain't getting stoned and falling asleep at the wheel. We get pumped up hit the gym and come home and eat where's the crime in that

ELI5: do moderators have access to the I.P addresses of a subreddit's subscribed users? If so, have they ever used this information to identify a certain user?
The only thing we moderators can see that non-moderators can't see are deleted comments and submissions, and of course the modmail for the subreddit in question. We can not see IP addresses or any info other than a persons registered nickname and his posting history (anyone can see this).

I'm surprised no redditer came up with a reddit "alternative" site hosted in a developing country, even if everyone has to register again and start from scratch.
