Repurposed drugs

I'd like to start a thread and add as I find information on repurposed drugs.

I will add more detail later when I'm on my computer.

So far I've found some interesting off label uses for drugs. This will be extemporaneously added.

Tibolone - female HRT drug with metabolites that are progestogenic, estrogenic and androgenic. Can be used in perimenopauseal and menopausal women for schizophrenia and mood disorder management. As little as 1.25mg daily has been shown to help with bone mass.

Mirtazapine - atypical antidepressant that can be used to improve sleep and appetite or to offset the sexual side effects of SSRI/SNRI.

Cabergoline - dopamine agonist that can be used to offset the mood disorders induced by 19nor drugs. 19nors can impact dopamine transport and elevate prolactin. This drug can be used to manage 19nor induced gynocomastia. Not safe for prolonged use at over 2mg per week due to it's effect on heart valves.

Ivermectin/fenbendazole/mebendazole - anti parasitics being investigated for the use in impairing cancer cell metabolism.

Low dose naltrexone - used to recover opioid and alcohol addicts. Somehow at lower doses increases pain killers and modulates the immune system. It's being used off label for various immune system diseases and neuropathy.

I'll add some more data later as I find it. Feel free to add any. I prefer to look into cheap drugs.

NAC N-acetylcysteine - anti oxidant precursor that has been used in mood disorders. Can also help break up mucous. See attached pdf for an overview.

Zoely (Nomegestrol Acetate and Estradiol) - birth control pill. Apparently this is the only one with a variant of progesterone which women can tolerate. The other progestins can cause aggression. Used to stabilise sex hormones during perimenopause or menopause.

Many of the drugs we use today are actually off label purposes.

Propranolol being one of the most prescribed “anti-anxiety” drugs, trazodone for sleep, gabapentin for anxiety + the 900 other things docs prescribe it for, hydroxyzine for sleep and/or anxiety, and so on.

~20-30% of all prescriptions in the United States are written off label AKA not for their intended and FDA approved purpose.

I like this concept. I scanned a product list of meds from a vendor and had the criteria listed as 'meds with most off label purposes'
