Repurposed drugs

No worries. I've switched to AM dosing of Sertraline so I can sleep through the brain zaps of a lower dose. Also keep in mind the sexual stuff is also the reflex. It's hard to explain but the reflex to orgasm is pushed further and further away as the dose increases. I've read this is related to dopamine and the spinal cord reflex.

I think there is a conspiracy by big generics to keep us with old, out of patent, cheap drugs instead of fancy new expensive ones.

Jokes aside. Apparently pharma companies don't bother researching new products because the SSRIs are so cheap and effective. In Australia Vortioxetine was rejected from PBS funding because there is no side by side comparison with older drugs. So they basically said sorry we won't fund this when cheap generics are available. The pharma company obviously won't study it along side existing SSRIs for obvious reasons. The PBS doesn't really care if my sex life is optimal unfortunately.....
Yep.

And in the US they won't bother trying to approve tofisopam because of cheap ssri's and buspar. I really liked the tofisopam, but have recently switched to the buspirone because it's available through the system Not sure I like it as much.

But even if I do - it's also so cheap and in competition with cheap ssri's that nobody is going to formulate an extended release version of it either - which would be convenient.

Yeah copy. I think the narrative about SSRI drugs not being effective is kinda weird. They are too effective and too cheap... Kinda sabotaged themselves.

Have you tried Indiamart/PCT vendors for that drug? It's available ex India and doesn't look expensive.

I wonder if you could just use buspirone as needed. I kinda like the numbed out feeling of Sertraline to be honest. Especially when my personal life turns to shit.

Yeah - I ran the tofisopam when I came off of prozac. Got it from the pct guys. Not too spendy - and if I end up not liking the buspar I would go back to it.

The buspar, as I'm finding and have been told - takes weeks for the effects to build up. Se definitely not 'as needed'. Plus, it's really just a general anxiety fix - it doesn't deal with paralytic anxiety or panic - which mine has in the past worked itself up to. Tofisopam dealt with both. With the buspar I also have a 2nd rx for propranolol for the panicky episodes.

We all seek different ends. I don't need numbed - I just don't want to be on edge and working myself up to thinking my heart is going to jump out of my chest. But I've been in the 'please numb me' zone before. I get it.

Oh, I've been there before. I know how it feels, it sucks. Precisely why I got switched to mirtazapine plus bupropion.

There are two problems with running head to head RCTs. First, the cost – they're stupidly expensive. Public health bodies can't really afford it, only big pharma. And secondly, big pharma doesn't want to fund them because they know their drugs will not show any superiority over a competitor's. It's very likely that pharma companies have already run head to head trials, but they're under no obligation to publish the results and they can secretly bury them. I can recommend the book Bad Pharma by Ben Goldacre if you want to know just how shady the industry is.

Buspirone must be taken every day long term to be effective – for both anxiety and anorgasmia.
