Shitbox drivers?

Just curious to see if anyone out there is a odd bird like me in this way. I make plenty of money my career is set and I'm at the upper end of my field as far as money and skill lwver are concerned but I hate making high payments on anything period. I can afford a new car and my wife drives a newer CRV cause she absolutely loves tha damned things but I put enough cash down to keep our payments below $180 month.

I myself have 3 different cars I alternate between and their combined age is 77 years old lol. One is a 1984 ramcharger that I dont consider to be a shitbox and more of a toy and my favorite car I've owned aside from the 1986 ramcharger I had in my teens and 20s.

But I own a old ass saturn sl2 that I love and it's my third that I've owned in the exact same color, package and condition. I treat it like gold and bought it from an estate sale from a daughter of an old lady that passed away with 78k on it for $1200 and it's now over 113k and I've done nothing but put a tire on it and change the oil, I call that winning lol

And then I got a old tahoe that is my 4x4 tow vehicle that has well over 300k on it and I use it extensively and even towed that heavy ass ramcharger )4500lbs + 2000lb double axle trailer) with it across 3 states for 6 hours during severe thunderstorms across the south and it didnt have the slightest issue a d I was not worried about the tahoe one bit. I bought it for $2800 and have done nothing but changed the oil and a power steering hose since I bought it a couple years ago.

Guys at work always bust my balls about my rides and my wife refuses to ride in any of them lol. But I look at some guys I work with making a $1000 a month payment for a dodge Cummins or $700 for a new Silverado and I think for what? Too look cool and pay a mortgage payment to get back and forth to work? I can think of a thousand other things I'd rather spend that money on and do.

Is anyone else like me rolling around with a smile on their faces with a fat wallet not giving a shit about what people think of them when they step out of a $1000 car at the gym or gas station?

I'm in the same boat
I really dint care what I drive

I typically drive the most beat up company truck that we have (I'm one of the owners)
Everyone else drives the new trucks, I take the ones that are all beat up, but reliable

I bought my mom a new car a few years ago, but I still drive the reject ugly trucks that need bodywork.

TBH
I really dont care what people think of me.
It always gives everyone a laugh when I pull up to the site with the shittiest vehicle.

"Who the fuck is that loser?"

"He owns the company...."

I'm with you man me and my wife live well below our means. We actually just got her a new car because she wrecked her 17 year old car. We almost have payed off. I'm getting laid off soon and people are oh I'm so sorry than get a weird look on their face when I ask why because it doesnt affect my life style one bit and I'm going to be paid to go learn something better. (Start school in the winter) they honestly don't know what to say to that. Me personally I like having the ability to do whatever I want when I want. Fuck a big car payment or 2 each month on top of everything else. Point a to point b is what I say

I grew up in a small fishing town. Some of these old men who fished all their lives drove the crapiest trucks but would be worth a mill or 2. You honestly would never know by the way they lived

I hear ya bro

I have a millionaire family member who used to drive a POS toyota Corrola to work.

Thing was dying, rusted out and looked like garbage

Dirty jeans and a plain Tshirt at all times
Usually too lazy to get a haircut, moustache probably uneven because he paid zero attention to trimming it.

Guy was loaded, but youd have never known by looking at him.

Just made the last payment on my 2015 2500 Chevy!! But my play toy is my 15 stingray with a AMI blower! I say play toy but It only has around 7k miles on it. My shit box though is a 70 mustang coupe..... hell I had a 408 stroker built about a year ago and it’s still sitting next to it.... maybe one day.

If ya got good credit and they are offering 0% it’s best to just make the payments than putting a lot of money down. Use the banks money free of charge and use your money to make other investments.

04 Audi A4...no issues. Paid 4 in cash. Probably worth 2 at the moment. Dirty little fucking thing. All my trucks for my business never were more than 20k. Meanwhile some of my competitors have trucks worth more than some of the houses in my area. I just can't justify going new on a vehicle.

Now my lawn mowers on the other hand...those little fuckers have cost me close to 13k new. Those are the only things I'll buy new.

Make plenty of money, credit is fine. Have plenty of cash available. I drive something I can own outright, typically very cheap. I don't mind turning a wrench so that helps. I hate owing money on a vehicle. The wife drives nicer vehicles than I do, she doesn't like looking like a buster. I'm fine with it, my money has other goals

Yeah, fuck paying a car note that's actually a house note. I'm a diesel guy, more of a necessity for work. Bought a 15 Ram 2500 a few years ago. I bought it used, got a great price and w my trade my note was next to nothing. Paid it off, it has 322,000 on it and I'm driving that fucker until the motor falls out. I would love to get a Challenger SRT8, but I'm too practical to pay the note even though I could swing it.

All my cars are owned, only money I owe is in the mortgage. Definitely driving nicer cars than I have in the past. Just picked up another chevy 1500 early 2000's got a killer Fe on it, and it's way nicer than my last one.

My financial victories have been developing recently, over the past few years. I struggled forever. Always teetering on the edge, always looking for more and more work to keep the wolves at bay.

It's a good feeling. When I got here I had to stay vigilant about spending, kind of break habits and all that. Covid hit and I couldn't spend cash as fast anymore. Not wasting cash is easier now. I've always been able to save money, just have always s spent a small fortune as well.

Getting older I guess

I'm VERY frugal
I live a simple life.
But, I reroll all of my investments as much as humanly possible.
For example, o buy an investment property
I renovate, it appreciates... I use the additional valuation as leverage to reroll a second mortgage to purchase the next door property and so on and so forth.

So I'm NEVER out of debt
As my net worth increases, my debt increases in a slightly larger ratio than my worth increases due to a higher exposure to the markets.

Covid fucked me quite badly lol.
Some tenants stopped paying rent, clients stopped sending out jobs for tender.

so I had to shoulder all the additional expenses for a time.

Doing great now, shes flowing back in and things are normalized
But I'll be honest, I was pretty fucking concerned for a while lol
