Starting my Senior Dog on TRT.

if you haven’t started injecting your dog with testosterone you’re missing out. I suggest everyone start injecting their dog with testosterone today, no excuses. Your dog would rather die early and live a real dog life then be a couch potato its whole life.

Mine has the biggest case of the zoomies right now and just humped my couch lol

Would like to see @Axle Labs be the first source to introduce a pet oil line.

@Axle Labs will you offer bloodwork reimbursement or store credit from our dogs blood work?

Definitely entering troll territory.

What happened to just giving our dogs a raw steak here and there, I’m sure dogs produce wayyy more test than humans or that they don’t even need it anyways the fact they function without balls

At 46 months of age after unsatisfactory response to other treatments, gonadal hormone replacement therapy was initiated. Extra-label use of testosterone cypionate (USP 1000 mg/10 mL, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Mumbai, IN) was administered subcutaneously at a monthly dose of 1.7 mg/kg. Serum testosterone was measured on the same day of the week and same time of day with levels of 2.44, 1.06 and 0.32 ng/mL at 1-, 14-, and 28-days post-injection, respectively. Thereafter, weekly testosterone injections (0.5 mg/kg) maintained testosterone levels at 1.2-2.2 ng/mL (normal range for intact dog) (Fig 1)

Most people WANT a pet that is basically a couch pillow though, so maybe what most want is a short-lived PWO for those ball sessions and not something that will build muscle mass and make their dog a gym bro 24x7 :p

I’ve long kept my male dogs intact for as long as possible; they don’t reach full physical maturity till well beyond when they’re considered ‘adult’ (think 3.5-4 yrs old), and keeping them intact until other issues (prostate, etc.) dictate neutering definitely helps maintain muscle mass.

Mibolerone can be given to bitches to prevent them coming in to heat, which can be nice if you compete in a dog sport that prevents bitches in season from competing. But it does exactly what you’d expect; they start growing hair in male dog patterns (the mane), and they get pretty confident and spicy, more than they already may have been. AND it can mess up future heat cycles; they may come in, but fertility may be affected.

Hormone use in dogs is not uncommon (USA), especially once you get in to the world of dog breeding and showing; stuff to induce estrus (think hcG) and stuff to suppress it (androgens, progestins).

Fair point about the breeding and showing side of things.

I will say the breeders and show peeps going to those lengths probably either have a vet who also breeds or shows and/or they have a theriogenologist involved in their care. I could see that being a thing.

The average GP vet is gonna be either too clueless, too busy, or too scared to advise (especially since the world is full of more Karen's and Chad's post-COVID). I like to think of people as a lot more "confidently stupid" (and mean/rude/whatever you wanna call it) post- COVID lockdown.

#bring back "there ARE stupid questions"...lol
