Stupid new law

I don't know if the is a new national law or if it only applies to this state. Probably just this state because there's no way that anyone but this Governor can be stupid enough to think this is a good idea.

Apparently, it is a new law that if a Spanish speaking individual who does not speak or read any English comes into a business to obtain employment, they must find him an application in Spanish. In other words, you can't say, Fuck off, you're not qualified for this job since we speak English around here and to our customers.

Only in America.

in nyc, at least 50% or more of subway advertising is in spanish. i guess it's just asking too much for these cocksuckers to learn the language. and the real fucked up part is that many of them were born in this country. only in america...

Hey, look, another dork who's on the internet on a Friday night! Welcome to the club.

Honestly, the phrase "only in America" is very, very true. They sure as hell don't have english translations on the signs in Mexico. Mabye in border towns, but you go deep into Mexico and it just doesn't happen.

hi i'm dork number 3 on the net on a friday night! Yeah i know its crazy. My company just hired like 3 mexican kids and they hired an interpter to work with them too. Only in AMERICA as you guys said.

Weekend classes suck ass, from what I've heard. Is it one of the ones where you go three or four separate weekends over the course of the semester? Those ones are a bitch because the Prof. always gives a bunch of crap to do since you have a month to work on it.

this country is just way too sensitive to all the 'different' folks who live here. the word 'american' is just an empty term...

a good book discussing the evolution of this phenomenon is 'the twilight of common dreams' by todd gitliin. grizz, i know you'd dig it. too involved to get into in this thread. if you have some time, pick up a copy used on the internet. you won't be disappointed....

Its six weeks long and its once a week on saturday. I have the ugliest girls ever in that class, not to mention the biggest assclown guys ever. Its psychology, and I think my grandfather was right when he said that psychology is only for the fucked up to figure out how fucked up they truly are--except for me of course. :D

True chip, in other countries it is considered very disrespectful to come into their country without the slightest clue about language or culture~Sensational

You're right. If I moved to Poland to get a job, they sure as fuck wouldn't change shit around for me. Nope, they'd still have everything in Polish and the metric system.

Don't try and tell me about ugly girls. I got a degree in Philosophy. In the 12 person classes there was only 1 or 2 girls and you sure didn't want to be looking at them. Although, by the end of the semester they started looking kind of good. :(

LOL...

Yeah, there are a lot of very strange laws in various states regarding lingual regulations. However, if you want to see real bilingual problems, move to Canada. In certain areas in Canada, it is ILLEGAL to have anything (signs, advertisements, etc.) that isnt in both English and French. Now that is fucked up.

Your friend,

Mark

P.S. Grizzly, I also have a degree in philosophy, and believe me, I hear you! Be glad you didnt go to law school, because it is far worse here. Imagine fat, ugly girls who decided to have an opinion and if you disagree with their opinion, then you are sexist. Thats right men...fat, ugly, bitchy women! (The Trifecta!)

You go to school with my sister's old roomate? :)
My wife and I are pure 100% Italian, she tried to get a job at a publix food market she did not speak any spanish so they never hired her, she has tried there 8 times and nothing, what the fuck kind of bull shit is that! there is also a bank here in florida that is for spanish people only! nothing againest spanish people!

i live in a very ethnic community. and even though i speak the language, i always ask for things in english...because i live in america dammit! ofcourse the people behind the register automatically start talking to me in their language. i just answer them in english....and sometimes these sons-a-bitches look at me like i'm out of place. fuckers!

and chip is right...hit the NYC subway system and you'll see a whole bunch of signs in spanish. i have nothing against helping people from a foreign land...since i'm from one and so are my folks....but my folks learned the freekin' language here. they still have an accent, but they could sure as hell have a conversation with you.

this whole politically correct shit has gotten tottaly out of hand. yes, lets welcome foreigners from other lands and cultures, but lets also make them learn the language. i'm not one of these extreme right wing guys who wants to deport everyone except for those whos ancestors came over on the mayflower, but shit...speak english in america.

have a nice day...vaya con dios

Try living in Texas, here we go to Lowe's or Home Depot to learn Spanish. ALL the signs there are in English/Spanish!!! I thought learning the language was part of obtaining your citizenship. What?!!, you mean some of these people are here illegally?

South Texas especially. No, I live in the northern part of the state, thanks in advance for asking. Haha!! Hey, I speak Spanish and English so
it doesn't bother me. However, I do feel it is disrespectful to not learn English. I speak it pretty well. Then again I was born here. So were the past six generations of my family.
