Surfing the net & privacy

What is the best way to surf the net and not be tracked by IP address? I don't feel safe visiting any steroid sites, e-mailing sources or posting messages knowing that my IP address can be traced to me. I figure that the sources must use something to protect them. What do they (or you) use to make it safe?
