The Death of Women's Bodybuilding???

First I'd like to say how impressed I am by the training and dedidetion I see from bodybuilders in general, much less from female bodybuilders. Whether you are natty or using supplements it takes a lot to get where some of you are. So I'm not judgemental of someone's physical appearance regardless of what it might be but I came across a article this morning and couldn't believe the shallowness of some people in our society... Actually I can believe it! I wanted to know your thoughts on this article. Is female bodybuilding dying? Is there a muscular limit on women bodybuilders that doesn't apply to men.

I have to agree with the sentiment of the article. Bodybuilding is about building a body that is a pleasure to look at, and when a woman gets too masculine the pleasure of looking is gone.
Sure, I can still appreciate the hard workx diet and injections that went in
But it's not pleasing to the eye.
Kinda like woman's powerlifting , they are bad ass chicks but nothing to look at.
I'll be a fan of woman's physique. Muscle, tittys and ass. And a pretty face too.

I had a feeling that would be the consensus of most men. Especially since most men don't judge other men by there looks or by starring at there package. Not to say anything is wrong with it if you do by any means. Your preference. I have appreciation for the petite to the masculine female body builders.

There's some fucking hot female powerflifters, man.... There are in my region, anyway. Asses to die for.

There are some hard to believe muscular women at my gym that are fine. They are still women just with a lot of muscle.
I'm interested in the women of meso thoughts. Intrigued to know if there is too much in their personal opinion.

Female BB has been dying for a long time. I remember going to various shows years ago and when the women came on stage half the audience got up and went out to the bar/stalls.

I think the fact that the judging criteria for female BB seems a complete mystery, the competitors have little idea what ideal they are aiming for.

TBH male BB seems to be declining as well. Now the huge growth area is the guys in board shorts (can't remember the proper name for this class right now).

Same applies, a lot of people are not attracted to the huge size of an IFBB pro BB'er, male or female. So now everyone is going for the more streamlined physique.

I can remember Venus beach as a kid looking at the bodybuilders and being wowed! Going to IFBB events and never taking my eyes off the stage. Bodybuilding is changing and not for the better In my opinion. I believe that the other class are just as committed to their training hence the reason there are multiple classes to compete in. But in my eyes the founding bb father's had it right. It's all about size and definition! Point blank!! That's BodyBuilding 101. Oh and its called the Mens Physique.

Thanks Big P, brain fade in my old age (either that or I just don't give a sh@t about watching guys in board shorts :) )

Lol... Right on BDW. I know that's right but I'm not a women's beach volleyball fan but always end up with a cold one stuck watching it!! Of course it's in person not TV......

The way I see it, women competing have a disadvantage compared to men. From my experience, it was easy for me to be in the bikini class but required a lot more size and definition moving over to figure. It is also hard for some to maintain it. And I know I'm pretty good in manipulating my body but if I ever wanted to try the next class up which would be physique for women then bb class, I know I would need A LOT of drugs to even attempt to attain then maintain that size. I dont even know if my body would allow me. This is where things go wrong for us females... in most cases.

First, it's the drugs. Either faked compounds or just stupid amounts that people take or their coaches advise them to take. Second, women being so desperate to achieve the required size and look that they get distracted and forget to pay attention to their body and its changes. This is when they reach the point of no return, IMO, as their natural structure changes of their body, skin, face, etc... and by then it's too late. There is no turning back. So what happens? She just continues to grow and be the best she can be with the hard price of giving up her femininity.

I personally wouldn't allow myself to get to that point. I think figure class still allows you to stay feminine and it's fairly easy to soften your look in between competition and/or shoots if need be. I do remember times when I was out shopping or whatever with my bf at the time and people would make comments like "can I touch your arms?" , "are those biceps real", "her arms are bigger than yours" ...and he was a guy in great shape, fit, defined and muscular but it was unusual to see a girl with cuts and tone that is typically seen on men. And mind you, I was training for my figure show, not even close to physique or bb condition! Lol

As for female bb dying off... it would be sad as there are some insane athletes out there...I have a few very good friends and they would beat any male with their body composition any day... but again, the price they paid... they aren't the most girly girls anymore and most refer to them as beasts because of the way they look. But they look absolutely incredible for bb.

I don't agree at all... bodybuilder chicks are super hot. There's girls that powerlift at my gym that we all sit around and admire. What I don't like is the women who've started transforming to men from to much aas. Never seen any at any gyms I go to, majority are hot in my eyes.

I can definitely see where it would be more of a challenge for a female to move up in classes without giving up her feminism. I believe men go through somewhat of the same mental aspects that women do. It's a addiction. You set a goal reach it then what? Well set another goal and so on. I think its personal acceptance of who you are. No difference between gender surgery. So you got some guns on you huh? Nice. Well keep working it out cause we are definitely noticing!! Appreciate your perspective!

So are you saying the facial features of them become manly only or/and the muscle mass.

I guess we all have that problem. Lol. Guys want to keep getting bigger as they say they are always too small... and women... it's more of a decision of how far are you willing to go as there is no way to turn back... for me personally, figure is the furthest point. I like me looking as a girl all over... as someone said... amazing body is nothing without a pretty face....

And yes, I did... been off cycle and had to take a few notches back... but after a good 7 month break, I'm back on and my guns slowly coming back again. :)

"amazing body is nothing without a pretty face"
I thought it had something to do with a personality but a pretty face doesn't hurt either! Seven month break wow! Welcome back to the game. Ggodess

Well personally is everything YES but when you're on stage... personally won't save you. As sad as that sounds... even in bikini, as vain as it is, sex appeal and pretty face is number 1... now, having the complete package is priceless :)

And thank you! I missed it like crazy... glad to be back on :)

Don't think female bodybuilding is declining at all. The female population that are into the fitness lifestyle is definitely growing and in a possitive way. The only thing that is declining I believe is heavy weight class BBing I don't like how it looks guys or girls there isn't proportions there is just mass. As for saying female powerlifters aren't attractive at my last meet there was about 20 girls and it was stupidly hard to be in a singlet back stage with them every single one was an absolute dime and they all lifted heavy. hell I have a friend who was there competing and she won silver, 4 months prior she placed 3rd provincially for bikini and 5 months post competition she is competing nationally for bikini so on her alone id say the sport has so much further it can go when a unenhanced ballerina is doing all that I could only imagine what a gal can do with a bit of enhancement and doesn't have to be on point shoes 5 hours a day.
