I was recently dropped from my private health insurance provider. I ended up enrolling in Medicaid only to find out what a bunch of shit it is. Medications I was previously prescribed need prior authorization and the prior authorizations have been denied. I was told I need to try a whole list of drugs before being able to use the drugs I have been taking, I informed them that I have taken these drugs before and they were ineffective, they said they need documentation (which I cannot provide because the doctor who prescribed me those medications closed his practice and I do not have access to the records).
Furthermore, I was threatened to be investigated if I self-payed for these prescriptions and I could have my insurance dropped all together. Also because I am taking one certain medication Medicaid utterly refuses to authorize another, yet the doctor knows what medications I take and still prescribes them. Apparently Medicaid believes it knows a patients healthcare needs better than the physician.
Medicaid/Medicare is a fucking joke. They abruptly dropped my grandmothers pain medication down by 30 pills in a month without any warning, I guess fuck it if people experience withdrawals or are in chronic pain. They also did the same to my uncle who experiences chronic back pain from a herniated disc and disc degeneration (who is on disability). The doctors recommend prescribing x amount of pills at x amount of mg, but Medicaid/Medicare flat out denies it. I think it is a unethical to threaten to drop peoples insurance just because they decide to pay for their prescriptions out of pocket (because Medicaid refuses to pay for it) and it is plain stupid that Medicaid/Medicare overrules and utterly disregards the decisions and recommendations made by doctors.
I feel like I am being labeled as a junkie and that I am being suspected of drug seeking behavior by Medicaid. It took me years to get prescribed these medications and I went through countless other medications before them. It is funny how much of a difference there is between Medicaid and private insurance companies, this is just ridiculous. I guess I am grouped in with poverty-stricken drug addicts who sell their Medicaid paid prescriptions for crack and heroin just because I decided to seek government assistance because I had no health insurance.
