The REAL deiffernce between cheap and expensive protein powder ???

Hello all !!! It's wondering me a question from some years ago ! What is the REAL difference between the cheap protein powder ( or gainers , may be other supplements also) and the expensive one ? Does it really the so called super/dooper/true/forced mass/anabolic mass/unbelievable/iso pure/hydro and so on expensive protein have this effect that the sellers try to convince us?yes,it is supposed to be digested by our bodies a bit better but....I really tryed the really cheap stuff and the expensive like muscletech and others.i am sorry but i can't make any diffenrce in the effect(taste, obviously ) even the last months my stomach feels strange after the shakes.may be just eating correctly is enough...and not spending 60 euros or more for powders

it is gonna come down to the fillers and other stuff in the powder. how many times it has been pasteurized. the more it is heated the more the protein is denatured. i look at the percentage of protein powder per scoop and also i try to use a protein powder that is cold filtered. i look at the amount of fat, sodium, cholesterol, calories. muscletech in my book sucks. they are way overrated. also i like protein isolates cause of less bloating and i don't feel sick after drinking it. i have been getting my powder plain so i can add what flavoring i want to have a variety that i want.

Cool !!! I was thinking that nobody is interested in discussing it and the thread will simply die.isolate is the best but still also the most expensive choice.how like this u get the protein unflavored and u make the taste?at least i never found this in Europe . And why the shit protein/gainer starts to make my stomach feel sick since a few months.i use normally Dymatize or Universal Nutrition . I even stopped drinking powders after training.kills my appetite for the rest of the day and makes me feel without energy.i just started to eat a good chicks. Or turkey steaks after training . I started feeling better.if the protein powder is cheap does in mean that Ur body is not absorbing it???

the protein isolate has smaller amino acid chains so it is easier to digest. i get the unflavored so if it want to drink it with milk well it tastes like milk or toss in so chocolate syrup or any fruit. it yeilds a 90% or more in protein where concentrate is anywhere from 70% to 80%. digestion rate they are pretty much the same. your stomach is getting upset probably from all the fillers and crap they are adding to the protein poweder. to get the percentage of protein per scoop take the amount of protein divided by the grams per serving. lets say 24 grams of protein per 30 gram scoop. 24 divided by 30 would be .8 or 80% protein the rest is fillers. i don't know but truenutrition.com is where i get my whey protein isolate and proteinfactory.com is another place. they both offer their powders plain. you can get some of the other brands like optimum nutrition offers a natural flavor. if you look at a label and it says 100% protein isolate that is total bullshit. it is impossible to have 100% protein. there is nothing wrong with concentrate. like i said digestion rate are the same pretty much. just more fat and fillers which i bet is causing your stomach to bloat. if you can get your intake with whole foods then by all means do that. there is a debate on drinking protein powders and that you are pissing more of it out than absorbing it. i tend to make my shakes thick and not so watered down. like casein i mix 8oz of milk to 2 scoops and it is like pudding and i eat that sometimes.

another thing, i like using beef protein isolate. musclemeds beef carnivor i like. mixes with water really good. also when a supplement company says that bcaa's are added they are blowing smoke up your ass also. protein powders naturally contain bcaa's to begin with.

Wow,u definety know stuff.i was searching so hard the last weeks all over the net but still cannot find a satisfying information.would it be correct to say that the difference in absorbing the cheap whey or soy than the good concentrate labels is not so big.lets say i drink 30 gr of concentrate with 90 % .from all the 27 grams my body will absorb/use how much of the good protein ( just teoreticly 20 gr of the cheap and 25 of the expensive , lets say) the isolate is a whole other story . Much people cannot offord spending much money for isolate.(at least around me) and its cheaper and much more delicious to eat a roasted chicken or turkey steak.if u have the time .i will check now the webs u wrote me down.what can we conclude? It's more important to spend money on good food than expensive shakes ? If i have the opportunity it's obvious I would buy me iso every month but ...

I started to wonder some days ago(I changed my workout and food routine) would it be really wrong if after workout i just eat a meal rich in protein?its really draining all my energies when I during the shake normally with a banana and the. Wait an hour or so to eat my meal. When I just eat good after workout i just feel recharged again. It's the first time i. Years since changed the shake after workout for a meal.may I should have done it a long time ago. Or my stomach is just too tired if drinking the shakes.

Whey proteins are long chain polypeptide GLOBULAR proteins, derived from the clear portion of "milk" after the "curd" (which contains primarily casein proteins) are removed during cheese production.

Thus when milk is processed for "cheese" roughly 20% remains a "whey" and the remaining portion the "curd". The latter which will require further processing to become a cheese product.

A "WHEY CONCENTRATE" simply has more of the unwanted by-products removed from this "liquid portion" such as; cholesterol, fats, albumin, lactose etc.

A "WHEY ISOLATE" removes 99% of those same unwanted by-products, in addition to all the other "non-whey" globulin proteins.. Thus the remaining whey globulins primarily include alpha and beta "lactalbumin".

Other bovine "whey proteins"
such as albumin and immunoglobulins are also removed in ISOLATE FORMS of whey supplements.

Another "advertised" form of Whey supplementation is referred to as the "hydro-isolate". This process cleaves the hydrogen bonds necessary for polypeptide "folding" common to essentially all "globulin proteins".

Ultimately it is believed isolate and hydro-isolate forms of whey are more "bioavailable". Enhanced absorption is observed upon the ingestion of more "simplified forms" of foodstuffs regardless of category (fats, proteins, carbs).

I believe it's important to emphasize a very relevant factoid and that is; supplements are NOT to be used IN EXCHANGE for a well balanced diet!

I'm right there with you bud, you can get whey concentrate for like 5.65 shipped per lb vs isolate which is going to be almost double. I'm almost afraid to give isolate a run, or at least the wallet is.

If we say that I prefer to use a not expesnive iso version ( that will cost me a bit less than 100 eu for 4.4 lbs ) There is not going to be such a huge differce in the gains of the cheaper vs. the gains of the isolate ?

Although the evidence is unequivocal whey is integrated into myofibrils and is readily absorbed, the differences between the products (concentrate , vs isolate, vs hydroisolate) efficacy is probabally small.

However although I suspect the more refinned products (hydro-isolate > isolate > concentrate > "milk") are more bioavailable AND better absorbed, whether THAT DIFFERENCE is responsible for improved "muscle growth", is UNLIKELY, IN MY OPINION! (I'm not familiar with any evidence to the contrary however).

My suggestion, because it's often difficult to achieve the ONE GRAM / pound of protein per day for MUSCLE GROWTH (if and only if AAS are also being utilized) protein supplementation simplifies that process and whey/casein products are an excellent means of achieving that dietary goal.

The specific product chosen is more the consequence of one's pocketbook!

My worry is the fact that supplements aren't regulated, so I really have no idea how much actual protein I am getting. Apart from independent tests (of which, I have only stumbled across a few, and I'm not really qualified to evaluate the true "independence" involved), the only method which has been suggested to me is to go with long-standing, trusted brands. But, then I'm back in the quandary of paying more for what might be essentially the same product under a bargain label. Does anyone have any suggestions along these lines?

Go with Dymatize Elite bro. Its actually FDA approved, and it was the best one I used, no indigestion or bloating. Not the 12 hr dymatize, not the other fancy ones, just the cheap old Dymatize Elite

I used Dymatize for long time and i think its still my favourite one . Thus its a world known mark the silly thing is that i hear form much people here in Austria that is ¨cheap , ¨not so good quality ¨, ¨we have betters domestic ones¨ . Totally in contra with my opinion .

I have tried the cheap stuff (body fortress&muscle milk) and my gas is horrible! I never thought I had a lactose issue but when I take whey shakes it kills me. I was wondering if it would be the same if I tried something like Allmax ISOflex. My gas bloating is torturing my family.
