those of you who train alone

i actually like training by myself, but I've been training with others since I've realised how much harder you can go having someone there to spot you etc..

how do you guys who do train solo do it? for example with bench press, I'm guessing theres a lot more smith machine exercises thrown in there? how do you push to lift as heavy as possible?

Fear of death. I know if i drop that barbell on myself its all over.
Or if it comes down to it, ask a stranger for a spot.

P.S. I use no smith machine for anything.

I use the squat rack with safety bars for bench. I know I can't go as heavy without a spotter but I still push very close to failure. I know I'll still get caught under the bar if I fail but figure I'll be able to slide off the bench and dump the the weight on the safety bars but fortunately this has not happened yet....... I'm only benching sets of 5reps at 110kg though. Fuck Smith machines.

I train alone at times..sometimes I just want to be alone and do my own thing at my own pace and not butt heads with a training partners..

Machines seem nice if I ever had the chance I'd get a bowflex always wanted one. Used to lift at the gym w a friend from work he recently moved so I'm by my self or w the wifey. The extra motivation is nice oh u did 10 reps here let me do 15..

I see a lot of guys doing that at the gym they'll push a bench seat over to the squat rack and do there reps there and never get hurt by them selves, whenever they get to the failure point they just put it on the nearest squat lock thing and crawl out. Been thinking about doing this to when I'm by myself.

I just leave the weight locks off my bench bar so if I can't press the weight at least I can do a titter Totter movement and let the plates slide off

Power rack with the safetys set just below chest level is what I use to bench heavy at home. if there is no power rack D Ballin has it right, no collars and dump it. It will luck and sound ugly but other than a pretty ugly red mark across your chest your upper abs you should be fine.

I hate when i see people benching on smith machines or in the squat rack. Get the gravity bench and youll be good.
