those of you who train alone

Last partner I had died of a stroke he experienced while in the gym. Probably not directly related to my intensity but I decided to not have a partner anymore after that.

Free weights are always going to work you harder but they may not always work the muscle you are targeting harder. Using both is good.

Learning to be able to go to failure and still control everything so that you are safe is a learned skill. If one is in this for the long haul, is it valuable to learn it.

i actually like training by myself, but I've been training with others since I've realised how much harder you can go having someone there to spot you etc..

how do you guys who do train solo do it? for example with bench press, I'm guessing theres a lot more smith machine exercises thrown in there? how do you push to lift as heavy as possible?
I go the dumbbell route myself....

I lift heavy by myself for the the most part. My gym has a bench with safety bars. I set the bars up when I'm going for a PR. Power rack with safety bars for squats.

Training alone is where you have your best moments that you can savor then move to the next level.
