those of you who train alone

I used to work out with mghoward before I switched gyms. He knows how to spot proper. Now I ask the regulars that know how to spot to help me out. Its a trial and error finding a good spotter. I hate when motherfuckers keep their hands on the bar the entire time. It mind fucks me and ruins each rep.

I actually like the smith machine, its right by the squat rack so I get to look at mad ass when the bitches use it.

Think I'm one of the few around here that prefer machines..

Lat pulldown, seated cable row, machine row? You can use machine preacher curls with an overhand grip.
Sounds like an excuse to me.

I have to use free weights. Free is the key word in freedom (I assume the dom is short for dominate or maybe dominatrix).

Machines are made to serve. Just like many people were made to serve for hundreds of years. So machines in the gym were built by the man to subconsciously take us all back to that level.

Also who is serving who. The machines have us humans lifting heavy weights, and they choose the directions we go. We have no say. It is obviously the 1st step to machines taking over and judgement day!

To sum up Free weights = freedom
Machines = slavery and machine overlords taking over the human race.

SAY NO TO MACHINES!

I agree bro freeweights u an target so many other muscles in ur exercises vs certain machines just the same motion over and over.

Finding it so hard to not take your comment seriously.
I typed a whole argument about modern medicine, research, transport and communication.
Back to work i go.

Its a pretty common debate and i doubt I'm going to end it, so I'll just say its just my preference. Obviously i use both but i find machines are more controlled and i can target some muscles better. Or by shifting the 'point of gravity' with cables you no longer have a resistance pulling downward meaning you have many more options.

Oh I agree w that totally.

Pull a bench into the power rack and press there. If your gym doesn't have one, it's not a real gym. But if you do train without one, I would advise asking someone big to spot you on just your last set. As long as they are regular bench presses (not close grip), you should be able to sense failure coming. No reason to push it farther on any set but your last, at least for benching. I truly believe that.

I also dot work out with anyone, though an occasional partner would be nice. Know your limits(I believe someone said earlier) is what works for me. A month or so ago I watched this dude trying to bench 275 wo a spotter and the bar slipped out of his hands on the up and dropped on his chest. Luckily guys ran over and snatched it right up. If I can't lift it wo a spotter I won't lift it. If I'm on my heavy set I'll ask someone for a spot. Dumbbells also work well for me to go heavy with.

As for the smith once and a while I'll use it for incline bench or some stuff leg deads but I prefer not to use it on a regular basis.

At the end of each workout I'll run machines for my last 3,4 sets to failure, that's it. Your not going to get massive by keeping machine work as a staple in your training regime.

At the end of the day you just have to find what works best for you. Just cause incline blows your chest up doesn't mean it will blow up mine.
