Took a month off and now my shoulders are destroyed

I took january off because of an awful flu and herniated disc pain.

I returned last week to the gym and despite lowering my weights in all exercises, my shoulders simply cannot take the strain.

They hurt when i do pushing movements, when i row, machine reverse fly, dip... and also hurt to hold the weights on cable triceps exercises... im limited in almost all upper body exercises. I never experienced this before after a long time off.

Also, not sure if related, lowered my test dose from 250 to 175mg per week

Should i rest more or if i train very light my shoulders will slowly adapt to heavy exercise again? Anyone had a similar experience before?

Is the issue with both shoulders equally, or is one worse than the other. If both, I would suspect inflammation. However, from what you described it could be more. If you have a PCP or family doctor, they can do some basic movements to check if anything is torn.

If movement is normal, then that would confirm inflammation. Lower weight and take ibuprofen. Sometimes the body takes a long time to recover, especially if the flu is as bad as you described.
