Trump Timeline ... Trumpocalypse

Soon after the fall of the Berlin Wall, a friend of mine — an expert on international relations — made a joke: “Now that Eastern Europe is free from the alien ideology of Communism, it can return to its true historical path — fascism.” Even at the time, his quip had a real edge.

And as of 2018 it hardly seems like a joke at all. What Freedom House calls illiberalism is on the rise across Eastern Europe. This includes Poland and Hungary, both still members of the European Union, in which democracy as we normally understand it is already dead.

In both countries the ruling parties — Law and Justice in Poland, Fidesz in Hungary — have established regimes that maintain the forms of popular elections, but have destroyed the independence of the judiciary, suppressed freedom of the press, institutionalized large-scale corruption and effectively delegitimized dissent. The result seems likely to be one-party rule for the foreseeable future.

And it could all too easily happen here. There was a time, not long ago, when people used to say that our democratic norms, our proud history of freedom, would protect us from such a slide into tyranny. In fact, some people still say that. But believing such a thing today requires willful blindness. The fact is that the Republican Party is ready, even eager, to become an American version of Law and Justice or Fidesz, exploiting its current political power to lock in permanent rule.

...

But why is America, the birthplace of democracy, so close to following the lead of other countries that have recently destroyed it?

Don’t tell me about “economic anxiety.” That’s not what happened in Poland, which http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/weo/2017/02/weodata/weorept.aspx?pr.x=27&pr.y=14&sy=2007&ey=2017&scsm=1&ssd=1&sort=country&ds=.&br=1&c=964&s=NGDPRPC&grp=0&a= (grew steadily) through the financial crisis and its aftermath. And it’s not what happened here in 2016: Study after study has found that racial resentment, not economic distress, drove Trump voters.

The point is that we’re suffering from the same disease — white nationalism run wild — that has already effectively killed democracy in some other Western nations. And we’re very, very close to the point of no return.

The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy: they are deliberate exercises in doublethink.

One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship.

IMPEACH THE CHAOS
https://claytoonz.com/2018/08/28/impeach-the-chaos/

Donald Trump gave an interview in the safe confines of Fox & Friends with Ainsley Earhardt (who thinks we defeated “communist” Japan in World War 2) where he argued against his impeachment.

It’s funny that Trump is talking about impeachment, because it makes it a much more likely event than if only Democrats were the ones talking about it. Yet, he believes we can’t do without his great mind.

Trump said if he gets impeached, the market will crash and everybody will be very poor. I know the rich have gotten richer since Trump became president, but I don’t think the poor has climbed up very much. The economy’s upward trend has continued from Obama’s presidency, which Trump is riding and taking credit for. But, wages aren’t going up.

As for the markets crashing, I doubt it. If investors didn’t freak out, panic, and jump off tall buildings after his election (which would have been totally understandable), then I think they’ll weather his impeachment just fine. By the way, what does Trump’s statements say about his confidence in Mike Pence? Does he feel the same way about Pence as I do? I guess I’m not alone in lacking confidence in a gay-bashing, religious freak who calls his wife “Mother.”

Trump, while pointing at his skull, said, “I think everybody would be very poor because without this thinking, you would see — you would see numbers that you wouldn’t believe in.”

Is that the same thinking that thinks HPV and HIV are the same thing, Canada burned down the White House, China created Climate Change, you get carded for shopping at grocery stores, Frederick Douglas is still alive, Obama was born in Kenya, and from coloring with school children we just learned that he believes the stripes in our flag are blue. Hell, Trump thinks the iconic line in Apocalypse Now is, “I love the smell of Agent Orange in the morning,” which he argued with veterans.

My favorite part of Trump’s statement is, “I don’t know how you can impeach somebody who has done a great job.” That’s not relevant for two reasons.

The first reason is; If the president is a law breaker then his job performance isn’t a factor (though polls may sway Congress, which they did for Republicans against Nixon and Democrats for Clinton). I don’t know how you can not impeach a president if he broke the law, ordered others to break the law, engaged in a conspiracy with a hostile foreign power, and paid foreign hackers to meddle in our election (which is now being looked at). Breaking the law in addition to cheating to win the election makes the president a fraud and illegitimate.

The second reason the president doing a good job is not relevant in this situation is that Trump is not doing a good job. Just because you tell everyone you are doesn’t make it so. It’s like telling people you’re their favorite president doesn’t actually make you their favorite president.

Richard Nixon was doing a good job with the economy and he was still forced to resign. Nixon half as crooked as Trump, and not nearly as stupid. Basically, Trump is running America about as well as he ran his casinos, except now he has nuclear weapons. We have given the codes to a guy who can’t operate a speaker phone.

Another concern I have with Trump’s statement that we can’t do without him is; does he not plan to ever leave? He’s joked about being president for life, but was he really joking?

Trump, being unaware there was a United States before he was president, believes we can’t do without him. It is an interesting theory, and one I think we should put to the test.

I’m willing to gamble on it. Let’s find out how much we’re worse off without Trump. It’ll be like the drunk guy you kick out of your party for peeing in the punch bowl, and he believes everyone’s going to miss him. In this case, the only people who will miss Trump are the ones who enjoy the taste of pee in their Kool-Aid.

I have more faith in America than Donald Trump does. We can survive without him, and even thrive. What I don’t have faith in is Donald Trump.

China Hacked Clinton's Private Email Server: Daily Caller

A Chinese-owned firm with operations in Washington D.C. hacked Hillary Clinton's private server "throughout her term as secretary of state and obtained nearly all her emails," reports the Daily Caller's Richard Pollock.

The Chinese firm obtained Clinton’s emails in real time as she sent and received communications and documents through her personal server, according to the sources, who said the hacking was conducted as part of an intelligence operation.

The Chinese wrote code that was embedded in the server, which was kept in Clinton’s residence in upstate New York. The code generated an instant “courtesy copy” for nearly all of her emails and forwarded them to the Chinese company, according to the sources. -Daily Caller

We are gathered here today to listen to me speak. I have many things to say, all of them valuable. And true. Very, very true.

We have been reminded that life does not last forever, but I should point out to you that I myself am very much still alive, both personally and politically. The angry Democrats working for the out-of-control Mueller investigation have done their best, in their witch hunt, to hurt me politically, but here I am.

But enough about me. We are here to remember what John McCain thought about me. Not enough. They say “speak no ill of the dead,” but what about “speak no ill of the president”? That’s important, too. More important. Not everybody seems to have heard it.

A lot has been said already about heroism and loyalty. As for loyalty, Sen. McCain wasn’t always loyal to me. And I shouldn’t need to point out that I won the presidency, and he didn’t. But I will point it out, because it’s true. And I won with the largest majority in U.S. history, larger even than the majority won by the legendary Abe Lincoln and all the other Republican presidents — put together. Sen. McCain didn’t win at all, although some call him a hero.

What is heroism? Heroism is having the courage to put the White House flag back up to full-staff, even as disloyal aides kept trying to keep it at half-staff. Half-staff is surrender, essentially the same as being captured in war, like you-know-who. And then when we really needed him to be captured, in loyalty to my presidency, where was he? Disloyal. Put the flag back up to full-staff.

I don’t mean to be critical. We have to remember that we are all Americans, and that as Americans we need to come together and support the president, no matter the personal sacrifice required. When we think of sacrifice, we should think of making them for me. I do. I sacrifice every day for me and my family. Yes, Sen. McCain and I had our disagreements about this, but at the end of the day, I won the argument. By a record amount.

So let the American flag fly proudly, over my office, at full-staff, and let that be a lesson to you all. As today we say goodbye, to the America you used to know.
