The Democrats Have a Latino Problem

Hispanic voters were supposed to be the party’s future. It’s not working out that way.

... While Trump was enacting his anti-immigrant agenda, Latino voters seemed to have slowly warmed up to the president. In last week’s NPR/PBS/Marist poll, 41 percent of Hispanics approved of Trump’s performance (black Americans? 12 percent). This is no outlier. Another recent poll put Trump’s approval among Latinos at 35 percent. An average of both would put Trump—again, an overtly nativist president—within about 10 points of Barack Obama’s 49 percent approval among Hispanic at roughly the same time in his presidency.

IRVING, TX—In the wake of a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that projected the planet had only a decade to prevent catastrophic global warming, ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods was reportedly feeling depressed Wednesday after realizing the Earth could end before they finished extracting all the oil.

“When I read about the report, it just hit me like a ton of bricks—we could all die and leave billions of barrels of petroleum trapped in the ground forever,” said Woods, wiping away a tear as he added that the entire oil industry was heartbroken by the thought that they might not have the decades they needed to extract all the oil from the planet as they had originally thought.

“We’ve already laid out plans for gas production by future generations of ExxonMobil employees, so it’s just very traumatic for me to consider the idea that they might never get the chance to enjoy the same profits we do now. Just think, one day soon, we’ll all be gone and that oil will still be there in the Earth, never to be removed. It’s a travesty.”

At press time, Woods announced ExxonMobil’s plans to quadruple its oil production in an effort to extract it all from the Earth while there was still time.

If there are any lingering questions about President Trump’s relationship with the news media, they should have been answered this week.

Appallingly but predictably, Trump for many days failed to express outrage or vow to take tough action after a Washington Post columnist, Jamal Khashoggi, reportedly was brutally killed in Turkey at the Saudi consulate. The Saudi journalist, a U.S. resident, was often critical of the Saudi government under de facto leader Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

As a https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/global-opinions/too-close-of-an-embrace-of-prince-mohammed/2018/10/09/dacd8658-cbe0-11e8-a360-85875bac0b1f_story.html?utm_term=.b03a0e1ee0ff (Post editorial) aptly put it, the apparent atrocity may reflect the influence of Trump, who has encouraged the crown prince to believe “that even his most lawless ventures will have the support of the United States.”

And again appallingly but predictably, Trump published a falsehood-riddled article in USA Today about “Medicare-for-all.’’

Glenn Kessler of The Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2018/10/10/fact-checking-president-trumps-usa-today-op-ed-medicare-for-all/?utm_term=.a6a750147827 (deconstructed Trump’s op-ed), writing that “almost every sentence contained a misleading statement or a falsehood.”

The president, he wrote, “chose to ignore the facts in service of a campaign-style op-ed.”

And USA Today let him get away with it.

Taken together, the two incidents — although far from equal in import — once again make it clear that Trump uses the media whenever he can to promote himself, but sees no reason to stand up for its societal role: to question authority and hold government accountable.

If there’s any surprise here, it has nothing to do with the president who never lets the facts disrupt political expediency. Any one of his raucous rallies proves that point dozens of times in a few hours.

The surprise is that USA Today — a reputable news organization that normally upholds standards for accuracy — allowed it.

... Describing Nikki Haley as a “moderate Republican” is like describing Jeffrey Dahmer as “a moderate meat eater”. Besides John Bolton there is nobody within the depraved Trump administration who’s been a more reliable advocate for war, oppression and American/Israeli supremacism, no more virulent a proponent of the empire’s photogenic version of fascism than she ...

“As a candidate, I promised that we would protect coverage for patients with https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2018/06/14/president-trumps-flip-flop-on-coverage-for-pre-existing-conditions/?utm_term=.6cb849543e9e (preexisting conditions) and create new health-care insurance options that would lower premiums,” writes President Trump in a USA Today op-ed – or, I should say, “writes,” since the text is not nearly digressive or incoherent enough to have sprung from the man’s own pen. “I have kept that promise, and we are now seeing health insurance premiums coming down.”

The first line, you might notice, contains a hyperlink. If you click it, it takes you to a Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2018/06/14/president-trumps-flip-flop-on-coverage-for-pre-existing-conditions/?utm_term=.e93a3b59f245 (fact-checking story) which explains that Trump’s administration is supporting a lawsuit to eliminate protections for patients with preexisting conditions. “With no explanation or warning, the president now supports an effort to nullify the provisions that make it possible for millions of people to purchase affordable insurance,” the article says, concluding, “Thus this new position, directly contradicting his repeated stance as a candidate and as president, qualifies as a flip-flop.”

Either the link was inserted by a subversive editor at USA Today (do those exist?) or by an especially lazy Trump speechwriter (those definitely do exist) who Googled Trump and “preexisting conditions” and called it a day without reading past the headline. Either way, it’s perfectly clear Trump has not remotely kept his promises on health care. He very specifically promised to retain the protections for patients with preexisting conditions written into the Affordable Care Act (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/02/25/the-cnntelemundo-republican-debate-transcript-annotated/?utm_term=.0d9178f0a641 (Trump): “except pre-existing conditions, I would absolutely get rid of Obamacare.”).

Hispanics, especially those that are here legally and 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc generation are hard working family oriented people. From LOTS of first hand experience, the great majority of them DO NOT think coming here illegally is the right thing to do.
With jobs available. the libs insistence that 782 genders must be accepted and able to piss in whatever bathroom they want, dancing vaginas, etc etc they are "woke."
Blacks are next. Being able to work and support yourself goes a long way for normal Americans.
Face it libs, people are working, people are watching your outrageous behavior, and seeing that liberalism is not acceptance. It's do as we say. And people of all ethnicities are becoming sick of it. Antifa is NOT the majority.
