WASHINGTON — President Trump vetoed a bipartisan resolution on Tuesday that would have forced an end to American military involvement in Saudi Arabia’s civil war in Yemen, rejecting an appeal by lawmakers to his own deeply rooted instincts to withdraw the United States from bloody foreign conflicts.
The veto, only the second time Mr. Trump has used his power to block legislation passed by both houses of Congress, strikes down a resolution that invoked the War Powers Act to distance the United States from a four-year conflict that has killed thousands of civilians and resulted in a widespread famine.
The measure was a rebuke of Mr. Trump’s support for Saudi Arabia even after the killing of the dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi. It was opposed by several of the president’s top advisers, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the national security adviser, John R. Bolton, according to people who spoke with White House officials.
“This resolution is an unnecessary, dangerous attempt to weaken my constitutional authorities, endangering the lives of American citizens and brave service members, both today and in the future,” Mr. Trump said in his veto message.

Mike Pence was upset. He said Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Indiana and promising presidential candidate had attacked his religion and accused him of discrimination. Pence said, “He said some things that are critical of my Christian faith and about me personally.” Actually, he didn’t attack Pence’s faith. Pence is doing what old, white, conservative men do best and that is pretend to be victimized.
Mayor Pete said, “That’s the thing I wish the Mike Pences of the world would understand. If you got a problem with who I am, your problem is not with me. Your quarrel, sir, is with my creator.” The closest he came to criticizing Pence’s faith was when he wondered out loud when the pious veep stopped “believing in scripture when he started believing Donald Trump.” He also asked, “How would he allow himself to become the cheerleader for the porn star presidency?”
Surprising no one, Pence didn’t answer those questions. Pence is like all Republicans now. They spent decades fashioning themselves as being closer to God than Democrats only to turn around and get into bed with a man who never goes to church, says “Two Corinthians,” and pays hush money to porn stars. There’s also that constant lying and attacking people thing. Republicans spent years telling us they are the party of family values. As it turns out, they were lying.
In response to Buttigieg’s criticism, Pence defended himself by saying, “I don’t believe in discrimination against anybody.” Oh really?
As governor of Indiana, Pence fought to prevent same-sex couples from obtaining equal parenting rights, supported a measure to ban same-sex marriage in the state, and signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which allowed business owners to refuse service to LGBTQ customers. He’s just as homophobic as vice president as he was as governor. In January, Pence defended his wife’s decision to take a job teaching at a school that bars LGBTQ students and faculty and said people who criticized that were “offensive.”
Additionally, Mike Pence once supported federal funding for gay conversion therapy, which is designed to change “sexual behavior.” No word yet where he stands on Trump-sycophant conversion therapy, but maybe he was just born that way.
Mike Pence is a champion of discrimination. He is almost as good at discrimination as he is at kissing Trump’s ass.
Also, take note that Pence hasn’t criticized the homophobic hecklers who have been following Buttigieg from rally to rally.

A Los Angeles businessman whose interactions with President Trump’s inaugural committee have been under scrutiny is now ensnared in another federal probe that is examining his political donations and work with foreign governments, according to people familiar with the inquiry.
Imaad Zuberi, who was a major Democratic donor before he abruptly pivoted to support Mr. Trump after the 2016 presidential election, was first named in a wide-ranging document subpoena issued Feb. 4 to the Trump inaugural committee by prosecutors in New York City. Mr. Zuberi contributed nearly $1 million to the inaugural festivities and hobnobbed at exclusive events for top donors, according to public records and people familiar with the situation.
In recent months, a different team of federal investigators in Los Angeles have asked Mr. Zuberi’s associates for records concerning his business entities and work with other nations, said the people familiar with the inquiry. Prosecutors asked questions about Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Qatar and Turkey, according to one of the people.
Another person familiar with the matter said investigators seem focused on tax issues related to Mr. Zuberi’s companies.
WASHINGTON — Robert S. Mueller III’s findings will be public on Thursday, but some of them will not be news to President Trump.
Justice Department officials have had numerous conversations with White House lawyers about the conclusions made by Mr. Mueller, the special counsel, in recent days, according to people with knowledge of the discussions. The talks have aided the president’s legal team as it prepares a rebuttal to the report and strategizes for the coming public war over its findings.
A sense of paranoia is taking hold among some of Mr. Trump’s aides, some of whom fear his backlash more than the findings themselves, the people said. The report might make clear which of Mr. Trump’s current and former advisers spoke to the special counsel, how much they said and how much damage they did to the president — providing a kind of road map for retaliation.
The discussions between Justice Department officials and White House lawyers have also added to questions about the propriety of the decisions by Attorney General William P. Barr since he received Mr. Mueller’s findings late last month.

TOKYO — North Korea’s Foreign Ministry no longer wants to talk to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, asking for him to replaced in nuclear talks with someone who “is more careful and mature in communicating,” state media reported on Thursday.
The Foreign Ministry said “no one can predict” the situation on the Korean peninsula if the United States does not abandon the “root cause” that compelled Pyongyang to develop its nuclear program, according to a statement quoting senior official Kwon Jong Gun, reported by the Korean Central News Agency and picked up by Reuters.
Pompeo is “talking nonsense” by trying to finish working-level negotiations between North Korea and the United States by the end of the year, “which subjects him to public ridicule,” the statement said.
“We cannot be aware of Pompeo’s ulterior motive behind his self-indulgence in reckless remarks; whether he is indeed unable to understand words properly or just pretending on purpose. However, it is a very dangerous situation if he really did not grasp the meaning,” it said, according to Reuters.
