Unemployment compensation

If he was smart, he would have set himself up a cabana and a pitcher of lemonade and then hired wetbacks to do the picking. Even the indians....the Colorado River Indian Tribe....hire wetbacks to pick. Now if a 'dumb Indian' is smart enough to realize he can pick faster and make more money by hiring wetbacks, you would think a whiteboy could come to the same conclusion. The problem with the whiteboy is, he wants 25 bucks an hour and a pension to pick watermelons.
LMFAO ... He is a black guy. One of my very good friends,at the time, but i haven't seen him in over 10yrs. Price was his last name,in case you know him :)

I kmow it's easy to point at an upper management person and call him an asshole, for what ever reasons. However the fact is, that he probably spent a long time, and money, to educate himself, to achieve that status, and how can you fault that? The fact is we live in a society based on capitalism. And as for not being able to find a job without a degree,I think that is largely exaggerated.

Yes, that is correct, all companies care about is money....if you are a part of the revenue chain- ie, sales/marketing or executive-level management - and are consistently bringing business in the door, you are far from expendable.

It sure as hell should be that way Hogg. But one thing about corporate is you have to conform, and always watch your ass. I was a sales manager for a financial institution and was responsible for unprecedented deposit and loan growth. I was making this institution money beyond belief. My compensation was heavily weighted in bonus and it got to the point where I was making like twice what my VP "boss" was......guess what? He began to resent the fact that I was effecting the kind of change that he couldn't for 3 years prior to my arrival and that I was makin more $ than him. Long story short I was cut from the team. So as I have learned EVERYBODY is expendable.

You should have postured yourself to take his job before he got you clipped :D

Maybe replaceable is a better word. if someone doesn't like you,no matter how much money your making for the company, you may be replaced. I don't like kissing ass,and that's what alot of people do,in order to keep their jobs. It's not a bad thing,in that they want to keep their jobs, but how could you have peace of mind when you come home to sit down and have dinner with your family. How can you sleep at night knowing someone got the best of you and you can't do anything about it,unless you want to lose your job,money,house,wife... Ok maybe i'm exaggerating a bit,but that's bassically how it is,when you work for someone. If i don't like someone,i just won't do business with them. there are plenty of other companies or homeowners who will be glad to do business with me. if you yourself are an ass, then that may be a problem, but why have to put up with some jerkoff, because he has more years in than you? Bullshit! If another carpenter came up to me and told me that i was doing something wrong and i better do it his way or else. I'd smack him in his mouth. I was thinking about what Grizzly said, and i think it is always good for someone to get bullied a little :) I was quite and nice when i was younger and since some people mistake niceness for weakness,i too was bullied. I wouldn't say alot, just my fair share. Well,it stayed with me enough to make me want to kill anyone who tries to tell me what to do. I'm still nice, but i will never take orders from anyone again. i think the Corp had something to do with it ,too :)

FB, I don't think its exaggerated at all, MY Sis, has a MBA at 23 yours old, 4.0gpa and she works as a cocktail waitress. What Companys want is experience, she has a degree but no experience. I have only a Highschool diploma but was recently hired By Best Buy making close to six figures and I am 25 years old, so I think I made the right descision by skipping college....James

Maybe you need to find a different job. Retail is the armpit of the world.

Ya I know, I should be A cop by now, but got a DUI about a year and an half ago. That indefinetly put those plans on hold. But I don't even know about that anymore, here in Los Angeles they shoot at cops more than they shoot at anybody else these days.

Sounds to me like you are not carrying paper or any relevant experience that would allow you to qualify for a 'normal job' as I call it. Lets take a look at this: store manager at Home Depot....or a cop, both jobs pay middle income salaries and neither require a college education. Frankly, I'd rather see you work 80 hours a week at home depot than to carry a gun and a badge....honestly, because you are 24 and do not appear to have an education which in my opinion means you are not qualified to carry a gun and have control over people. Thats just my honest opinion and it is why I am very skeptical about young people like you driving around in police cars.

I honestly believe, if I am correct in my analysis of your background, that you need to get your ass back in school. Perhaps go back to clerking at HD and slug out an undergrad, then when you are done, take a job in a corporation that will pay tuition and give you a path of upward mobility if YOU rise to the challenge.

You might have heard the term 'paying your dues'...the bottom line is, you need to pay them. Those big dollar IT jobs than any lame ass could score with an engineering technology degree are gone, the sales jobs in growing markets have been taken, times are tough, the strong survive as business continues to evolve. Get the paper, get into the game. When you are 30, you'll begin to reap the fruits of your labor. By 40, you should have a solid, high-paying senior management position, exec thereafter if you are good. Thats reality. I see all these kids living at home earning $ 15-20 bucks an hour driving $40K SUV's and buying up all the bling bling on credit.....they would have been a lot better off buying a 1992 toyota standard cab for 2 grand and taking a job that allows them to maximize their time at school. Education always pays off...it is the greatest investment that one can make by far.

You might not want to hear it but believe me, it is the compassionate side of me that has reached out to you. Think about what I said, take a good hard look in the mirror, and analyze your scenario.

Remember, the geeks always win......I was a geek, abandoned my geek-hood from 26 to 31, and have since evolved back into geekdom......that really flashy motherfucker that gets pussy at will and drives the beamer that he bought on credit will be a tired-looking 40 still driving that same beamer and answering to a geek for a middle-class income years from now.

Trust me, I'm right.

I know I'm new this board and dont want to step on any toes, but I must agree and somewhat disagree with Mod HOGG.

Education is great and there rairly is a down side to having one.

But people please understand, even those with masters degrees and above have lost their jobs to those over seas because companys only care about the bottom line. "MONEY"

You have to find a niche now a days, but always remain diverse. Having education makes you employable but experience makes you useful.

I've been a professional in the world of sports for some time but have always taken college courses in other fields knowing that one day even my job could be given away to someone else with less of an education for no other reason but that they are willing to do what I do for less.

To make a long story short! "Diversity is the only way to survive in a cut throat world, but with good bro's life looks brighter."

DAMN BUSH TO HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what you definitely get me thinking, but then I remember at 20 years old I bought and payed off my first house and 99' corvette paid cash for it. I have a BMW 2002 already paid off and just recently bought a modest $600,000 home. Retail is my hobby, you see. The family business that has been around for 50+ years is where I make the real money. Maybe not by your standards, but 10-12k a month is not that bad for me.....You can say what ever you want about me and "young people" but I don't believe in credit cards and don't believe in debt. I don't live at home with mommy. I believe I have payed my dues. Working 60-80hrs a week in the retail ind. and still help run a family biz is not that easy.

I am glad you could add some good insight with your post. Don't you just love people who kiss the ass of MODS. Jack ass

I was laid off from my job last year. I received unemployment in the amount of $290 per week. You generally can only get it if you are laid off, not fired.

Every state has a different amount and it generally lasts for 6 months. However in times of recessions it can get extended and it was extended in 2003.

Have a nice day

YOU KNOW what DUMB .....OPPS I MEANT dumbbellpress (freudian slip). Obviously this topic is close and real to people and everyone has there own veiw. But can you contribute a little more then ASSKISSING a MOD. Which BTW I am sure Hogg can feel your lips are on his ass and he probaly doesnt like or need them there!

I hear what Hogg is saying even though I have never had to be on unemployment I sure could have been. Our economy sucks right now and there are a lot of intellegent qualified people looking for jobs. So if you get laid off today the HIRING process for a GOOD job that Hogg is talking about could take months. What the morgage and car payment isnt due while this is taking place!
IN CA you only get the benifits if the termination is not your fault (for the most part that is). To continue receiving benifits you must show that you are looking for work also. Sometimes it is needed to pay bills untill people get on there feet again!

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from a very good college and am in school currently right now working on a second degree. Education is very imprtant to me. I wanna get married. Be a good husband. Have kids........be a loving Father.
I want to be financially sound so I may provide everything my family needs. Education is going to be the key for me to provide these things for my (future) family.

I happen to agree with Hogg on education being important to my dreams and ambitions of one day becoming a good Husband and loving Father.

That makes me "dumb"?? That makes me a "jackass"?? LOL, Ok, I am a dumb jackass I guess.

dumbbellpress No excuses, no regrets.

Hey Dumbbellpress, If you would have said this with your "I agree with HOG" statement than I would have understood why you agree with HOG.
I just don't like it when somebody doesn't even know me and wants to"put me down on paper" and try to analyze me. I am here trying to help out on a very touchy subject and I get singled out by some "super mod" who thinks he's better than everybody.

I have worked hard thoughout my young life and yes maybe I should have went to college, but I didn't. I started as temp. tree lot associate at 19 years old and with extremely hard work and dedication had my own store in 4 years. With my stock options alone I could have retired a millionaire by the time I was 40 years old, but the fuck Bob Nardeli had to come along and fuck everything up(another story). My VP graduated from Wilson High School, in CA. and never went to College. Now he sits in the same room as the officers of the company.
Sorry for the rant but, I have much pride in what I have acheived....

JamesT my post was in no way shape or form directed at you. To be honest your post was pretty long and I only read maybe half of it. I was strictly referencing my post to Hogg's statement that education is worth its weight in gold. How you concluded I was criticizing you is beyond me, I dunno.

dumbbellpress No excuses, no regrets.

One other thing JamesT.....you can look long and hard and you will not find a better man than Hogg. He is not trying to judge you or tell you how to live your life. He is just throwing some suggestions out there.

I for one love it when a guy like Hogg, who is obviously ten times more intelligent and wiser than I will ever be, cares enough about me to give me some suggestions.

Not sure what you mean about Hogg being a "Super Mod" but oh well to each his own.

dumbbellpress no excuses, no regrets.

oK, i'm sorry but, you totally lost me. If you make 10-12K a month from a family business, what the hell are you doing working at home depot or even thinking about taking $ 50K a year to have people shoot at you? I honestly do not get it.....if you have a $ 600K home, a few vehicles paid off, and you are working for the family business, then why do you even bother going to HD every day? Hell, it sounds like you can forego HD, work part time in the family business and learn about anything that you want for as long as you want....ie, you can stay in through a doctorate or post doc no problem.

..

Honestly friend, I come from a working class portuguese family and busted my ass for nearly 7 years at night in school while simultaneously working full time the whole way through. I have been paying my way during this entire journey of 15 years now and I am certainly not 'better than anyone' . However, I can say with much certainty that I give a lot more effort than most no matter what it is that I focus on. Now mind you, if you are offended by my initial recommendations to you, then hey, forgive me for offering insight. As I said in the post, I did it out of compassion; were it not that the older took the time to offer wisdom to the younger, then many young men (including myself many years ago), would waste more time finding the path. Obviously, you can find the path on your own and I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

Take care.
