Update on statins

There are very few "free lunches" in this PED/sup game. Seven that I know/use that are absolutes for me are:

1) Creatine - strength/recovery
2) Low dose Statins - destroys cholesterol (take at bedtime)
3) Tadalafil 2.5 - 5 mg - prostate/pumps/hard-ons
4) Turmeric - Inflammation
5) Beets - energy/pumps/pre-workout
6) Whey protein - well known
7) Caffeine - in moderation/pre-workout/fat burn/energy

I've seen this said several times; what's the thought process behind taking a statin at bedtime?

I just want to clarify, I know why people are saying it, but I want to see why it keeps getting stated as a matter of fact.

It's because the liver, which produces a large amount of cholesterol, does so primarily when you are sleeping. However with rosuvastatin, it doesn't matter as much as with the other statins as it has a much longer half life. I still take my low dose at night anyway though.

IIRC, it's also due to taking the shorter acting statins during the lowest consumption of food, in combination with what you mentioned.

But yes, correct, with newer/longer acting statins (re: rosuvastatin), time is mostly irrelevant.

Also; if that's you in your PFP, you're insane bro.

This explains it well. But it is true that it depends on which statin one is taking:

Man, you shouldn't use 10mg of Ezetimibe, but 5mg.

" These data strongly suggest that ezetimibe 5 mg and ezetimibe 10 mg are clinically equivalent with respect to LDL-C reduction and achievement of ATP III LDL-C goals. Widespread adoption of this low-dose strategy could result in a potential cost savings of more than a billion dollars annually... "

First of all these are some fascinating results - thank you for posting. It seems like you may fall into the "lean mass hyper responder" category, which is not supposed to be associated with the same negative CVD outcomes that would accompany cholesterol that was similarly high due to different causes.

How does ezetimibe affect your digestion on a carnivore diet? I also eat an almost-carnivore diet and was concerned to read that ezetimibe interferes with digestion and absorption of fat. Any new diarrhea or other signs of malabsorption?

It doesn't affect fat absorption. Just cholesterol absorption and is a very low side effect drug. I take 10mg with 5mg crestor ED.

It doesn't affect fat absorption.
It does in mice:

Well, if it did to any real tangible extent, you would get oily stool like you do with orlistat. Never gotten that even with higher fat meals nor have I heard of anyone getting that side. Like I said, it is a very low side effect drug.
