Useful security software

sorry, not really an Anabolic Forum topic, but thought it might be of interest to many here, given the "special things" that have recently happened.

WindowWasher

software cleans all the temporary information left on your PC after surfing the Internet. You can set it up to run automatically (like every time you shut your browser down, or once a day, etc.), or just when you want to run it. 30 day free trial. By default, it "nukes" your cookies, so if you don't want that, make sure you change the setting before you "wash". Nope, I don't work for them.

Eraser v5.7

Eraser is an advanced security tool (for Windows), which allows you to completely remove sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns. Works with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and DOS. The patterns used for overwriting are based on Peter Gutmann's paper "Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory" and they are selected to effectively remove magnetic remnants from the hard drive. This one is a freebie and a no-brainer. It runs at 1:00am on all my PC's and obliterates all "deleted" data, making it virtually if not completely impossible to recover.

Cryptainer.

Cryptainer allows you to create encrypted file folders that look like disk drives. Free version allows you to create 10MB drives.

security software is getting a BIG ASS HAMMER AND CRUSH YOUR DAMN HARDDRIVE IN PIECES AND THROW THAT SUMMABYTCH IN A LAKE, then go to Best Buy and buy another one.

So it sounds like the Eraser v5.7 is the best option here...right? Basically, I want it if somone where to come and take my computer for some odd reason, that they wouldn't be able to retrieve any old emails or pull up any searches or websites that I have been to. Will this work like this? Thanks cvguy.

Evidence Eliminator is one of the best to wipe hard drive clean. It's what I use....mostly to free up space. Here is what they claim it does "scan, locate and identify then manage, eliminate, erase all internet history, caches, cookies, index.dat, program temp, windows trace, deleted email, log, temp, Files. As well as: forensically analyze every sector on your hard drive to identify and overwrite to 00 all back up copies or traces of these files, as well as other files and personal information that you have previously deleted, but are still embedded on your hard drive. Reformatting your hard drive will not eliminate this data." I copied that from an information website.

Also another thing that is useful is something called the anonymizer. It puts you through a server so your IP address cannot be traced. Works good but a little slower surfing than normal.

Yeah, I've used Evidence Eliminator as well...it's kind of a 1 stop shop for covering your tracks. It's good stuff. It managed to destroy my operating system once, but that was probably my fault, as I was in a hurry.

If you delete all/any incriminating files, eliminate "junk" with Window Washer and use Eraser, you're in pretty good shape. But yeah, running over your hard disk with a Hummer H2 is a more effective option.

You gotta do this stuff in advance though...it takes a while to clean a PC...hours even.

gotta agree the feds have all the best tools for data recovery ,if i was a source being chased i would burn the old drive and get a new one.
No way am i trusting my legal record with third party software.
