Guess what i just heard from a very reliable source. Chad nichols( ronnie colemans nutritionist) and many others tell their bodybuilding clients to take 2 months off completely from training after they get done with their shows. They arent even allowed to touch a weight. This is supposed to shock the muscles big time when they go back to training again. has anyone heard of this. I would like to hear what your opinions on this are. What do ya think?

i always try to take a break from all of it every 4 months. it helps me from getting burnt out. plus my body just feels refreshed. but i only take 2-3 weeks off.

I dont subscribe to the shocking muscle theory.
A break from the weights would be most beneficial for mental drive/hunger.
Also after a massive helping of chemical supplements, two months off for pct and why workout when your in catabolism?

i actually just took a month off, 4 weeks. I had been training for like 2 yrs straight, with just my 2 or 3 days off a week. And actually i feel great. alittle weaker and i'm getting sore of course, but overall i feel good. And i'm back training hard. I stopped cause i felt i was overtraining, always tired, sore, i caught a cold. But i do believe it is benefical to take some time off, maybe only 2 weeks at a time.

I dont know if this is accurate information.
Rememeber the superheavy deadlift video clip by Ronnie? On that he says he is two weeks after the MR O comp.
And would he take training advice from his nutritionalist?

I cant see me taking a break unless I get injured. And even then Im going to try to get in the gym.

After 20 years of BB training and winning several Mr Neberaska's

Time off is not needed as much as a total change in training .

If you do 6 reps per exercise change to 12s if you do 12s go to 20s , if your doing 20s go to 12s and so on .

Don't stope there with the changes if your doing bb bench press go to Dumb Bell bench a like exercise but deferant.

change the work outs every 8 weeks then run the new one for 4 weeks change it agian.

Allways do the basics no more then 12 to 14 sets per body parts.

DOn't know how anyone would shock a muscle but Mentzer used to have guys breaking all the time ... I believe a month or so before HD workouts if they were training marathon before ... I have a muscle stimulator so i guess i can relate to one shocking a muscle .. Stungun would probably be more of a shock though :p

Don't mean to beat this dog to death but..as a hard gainer i hate to take breaks..it seems like if I take 2 weeks off i lose my size so quick it is scary ! Then it take's me 3 months to get it back..seriously man. What me and my partner do is continually change our routine every 2 months and take 4 weeks off per year..2 one week breaks, and 1 two week break..during the 2 week break i will go in and do abs, light cardio, pull ups, dips, push ups.I do nothing that would strain ligaments/tendons..I cannot stay away from the gym very long ..i am addicted to it.I know after my 1 week breaks mentally and physically I come back much stronger and much more focused.
