Rap has been around for roughly 25 years (1979, IIRC). I have listened to 50 cent, snoop, and all those guys. I rarely find a single "song" that I dont mind, but that is few and far between. I usually like to be able to understand and hear words of a song. Im sure there are some out there where that is possible, I just havent found them. I also have no desire to look. Its not a genre of music that I enjoy listening to. Id rather go listen to the Mormon Tabernackle than listen to 50 cent jabber on about whatever he talks about. In actuality, I wouldnt want to listen to either. Its not about having a closed mind, its about having listened to people and decided its not something I enjoy.

I think what Bob and Hogg are getting at, is that the subject matter in rap reflects the very activity that keeps poor urbanites (not just black) repressed. And why encourage that... Of course I'm not speaking on their behalf but that's what I'm gathering from their posts. I agree 100% but it does amp me up in the gym.
If you guys want to hear some intelligent sounding stuff from a rapper with above average intelligence, might i suggest old Tribe Called Quest. If you've never heard of him you'll probably chuckle just by hearing his name, but Q Tip is a very positive dude.

How can you folks listen to rap working out? Sure some of it has a good beat but where is the blood curdling screaming from bands like Skid Row, AC\DC, Ratt, etc.? I have a MD player and burn all my 80's hair bands in to make the ultimate workout music. The 80's were the best time for hard rock. Makes my workouts really intense and just want to kick everyones ass. The only thing I want to do when listen to rap is bob my head and cap someone...
