crewboss said:I think what Bob and Hogg are getting at, is that the subject matter in rap reflects the very activity that keeps poor urbanites (not just black) repressed. And why encourage that... Of course I'm not speaking on their behalf but that's what I'm gathering from their posts. I agree 100% but it does amp me up in the gym.![]()
If you guys want to hear some intelligent sounding stuff from a rapper with above average intelligence, might i suggest old Tribe Called Quest. If you've never heard of him you'll probably chuckle just by hearing his name, but Q Tip is a very positive dude.
good post boss, Finally someone sheds some light on the subject instead of saying the all intelligent "rap sucks". To dislike the music is fine and a matter of taste, but to say that the only purpose of the music is to glorify illiteracy throughout urban and underprivileged areas is just innacurate. I respect everyone's opinion here and I think I take exception to this discussion because, I myself am in the industry, but there is a great deal more out there than what you might hear on the radio or see on TV.
To crewboss: You might not have heard of these artist I am going to mention, but if you like Tribe, these mc's are closely related and highly intelligent. You might want to check out, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, they both have solo albums and a group album called Blackstar. Also, common, Black thought of the Roots, and canibus are all extremely atriculate Mc's. Wisdom
