Working out on an empty stomach

I’ve done fasted workouts my entire life for the most part.

Never has negatively affected me as far as I’m aware

(I train at 5am and can’t be bothered messing about with breakfast)

100 percent. I am so bad about doing something like meal prepping for the week for a period of time, then getting tired of doing it and it become a nonexistent part of my routine. You ever tried any of the subscriptions for meal prep? I used to just fix 2 different dishes and portion out for 4 days of the same meal. Probably why I got tired of it. If one of the companies like Huel or something similar were good, I’d subscribe.

For me, no need. Fam has zero desire to touch my Tupperware meals.

Same, the kids would sooner gargle draino than to eat one of my meal prep containers from the fridge. The wife too for that matter.

Though my wife puts up with a great deal from me on the whole. Being married to a dude in this life can’t be easy to take. She’s a saint in my eyes

I hate eating early but if I'm going to exert myself early then I notice workouts are much worse unless I add some calories. If I have to take something in early it will be protein powder and simple easy digesting carbohydrate. The only kind of fasted exercise that is okay for me is LISS. Even 30 G of simple carbohydrate makes the workout way better.

Other people seem fine working out fasted or even prefer it. Seems to vary by person. I also don't buy into fasted cardio burning more fat. Total calories versus total expenditures is the overwhelming factor that matters. If you eat in a deficit, whether you burn calories faster or not doesn't make a difference.

Hot off the press: Effects of overnight-fasted versus fed-state exercise on the components of energy balance and interstitial glucose across four days in healthy adults (Podesta et al., 2024)

no difference
