GVT

How effective would a GVT (German volume training) program be while on cycle? Thoughts from someone that has maybe done a GVT program while on cycle

I'm starting this GVT training I'm looking for a couple suggestions for compound biceps exercises to build size.

Gvt works well on and off cycle... I would recommend doing 6weeks gvt in the beginning and then crushing it with your favorite low rep heavy weight routine for the next six.

A good compound bicep exercise is close grip pull ups. I usually do 10x10 close grip pull ups with 10x10 dips, then maybe 3x15 shoulder raises and 3x15 shoulder presses for a gvt arm day.

Weighted close grip chin-ups with a neutral grip is probably the best compound lift for biceps imo, you would be best to incorporate those along with weighted dips for tri's. Should give you some disgusting size on your arms :)

Hi weighted chinup, I also a lover of weighted neutral grip chin-ups.. It has been the warmup for my arms day for quite some time already.. Can really feel the pump and ready for other curling exercises.. One thing is... to increase the weight overtime is kinda difficult... As my bodyweight is ever increasing too.. :D:D:D

Yup, that's a problem for me as well. It's hard to actually add weight on the dip belt each week when you are growing on a regular basis, so at this point strength increases tend to come in the form of being able to do more reps per set.

60lbs is my 10 rep max for weighted chin ups and I usually weigh about 188-190lbs. So total weight is around 240lbs....the most recent world record for weighted pull up is closer to 400lbs for 1 rep, the guy who holds the record weighed around 200lbs so he was carrying another 200lbs worth of plates on a belt....

The heaviest weighted pull up weighed 206.2 lb (93.53 kg) and was achieved by Steven Proto (USA) at a personal gym in Edmond, Oklahoma, USA, on 9 July 2011.

Proto attached four gymnasium weight plates to a belt worn around his waist during the pull up. The plates were tied together with a chain. The entire apparatus was weighed before and immediately after the attempt.

This is the only "official" record I could find for weighted chin-up/Supinated grip (the other dude did a pull-up/pronated grip).

Rather than weighted chin ups I find rack chins to be better for progression while in a building phase...

Rack chins are a great lift as well because they place a lot of emphasis on the negative. I'd like to try these out at some point using a pronated grip.
