Icarus - Russian Doping Doc

So this thread became quite the saga!

I think assume whoever your sporting heroes are for the most part they are not competing clean, but also I think the standards the likes of USADA hold some of these people to are unreasonable

What the documentary did show though is that the IOC, WADA etc have no interest in catching drug cheats at the top table of the sport, the brand recognition ambassadors, but is happy to sacrifice a few lambs lower down the food chain.

Anyway, outside of Icarus and Bigger Faster Stronger, what other juice docus would you recommend?

Under Construction wasn't too bad... I like the guy in it but it would be more appealing if he had a body that was somewhere, anywhere along the lines of what I'd strive for. He seems like a genuine dude though... I'd love to see him hire a trainer like Efferding to get him in better shape.

Any one else cringe like a motherfucker when they showed his quads after he had been pinning for a while? Straight pin cushions:eek:

Global anti-doping system compromised ahead of PyeongChang 2018
Global anti-doping system compromised ahead of PyeongChang 2018 - Sports Integrity Initiative

The global anti-doping system appears compromised ahead of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, according to a new documentary produced for ARD (video - go to link). Undercover athletes were prescribed prohibited substances by a Swiss doctor shortly before the Games, and experts were able to open and reseal both types of sample collection bottles used by anti-doping organisations across the globe. Experts working in laboratories licensed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) were unable to tell the difference between sample bottles that had been opened and resealed, and those that had not.

Did Russian gov't sponsored doping program chemically synthesize their own raws?
Or they used commercially available made in china raws?

It's already been proven that Russia had a doping system, so that part is true.

Netflix has a habit of producing documentary's that are kind of sensational, which makes them more like clickbait. The fear mongering food/nutrition docs they upload are sometimes kind of a pet peeve of mine.
This party documentary looks interesting, the synopsis is that the doc starts with an endurance cyclist that decides to investigate sports doping by doping himself and recording the changes he makes. Later on is when they get into the Russian Doping system apparently.

How's he will alive? I don't know, but I like the title... Icarus was the one who flew too close to the sun and his wings burnt.
Just wondering what the title of this documentary is? I saw one a while ago that started out with Lance Armstrong and doping but it wasnt about him exclusively. Is that the one?

It's called "Icarus".

It does have a lot of info about Armstrong when it starts however, there are a few documentary's that cover Armstrong's rise and fall.

Armstrong's podcast with Joe Rogan is great, BTW!

I thought Armstrong came across better than Jon Jones for sure on rogan, Jones still tried to blame everyone else

In a surreal series of events that began in December 2014, a German news documentary reported that the doping system in Russia was state-sponsored; the World Anti-Doping Agency launched an investigation that alleged Rodchenkov was the mastermind of Russia’s doping program; Rodchenkov was forced to resign; and https://www.vanityfair.com/people/vladimir-putin#intcid=dt-hot-link held a press conference in which he bizarrely promised to punish anyone responsible for the alleged doping violations he denied were true. The Icarus team kept filming.

“All of a sudden, this nutty Russian scientist we had been considering a secondary character in the documentary is at the center of this worldwide doping scandal,” Cogan said. “[Rodchenkov] called Bryan up and said, ‘I’m going to be assassinated if I stay in Moscow and I need you to save me.’ Bryan bought him a plane ticket, brought him to the U.S.A., and kept him in hiding from the Russians. Icarus was suddenly a completely different project.”

Fogel should have purchased a couple of extra tickets for Rodchenkov's wife and children too. But probably a better narrative to leave them behind in Russia.
