I agree with more training, but the entire system is misguided so training is just a small part of it. Recently, the graph comparing jobs such as those requiring a cosmetology degree to police training became pretty popular.. which I think is good for perspective.

Many LEO start in the military because it seems like a good background to have but I've always strongly disagreed. I feel it creates way too many negative character traits in a LEO that gets too far away from LE's intended purpose.

Cops in my area do quite well actually. Asset seizure doesn't help them personally to a huge degree, just the department's budget. Still, mafia isn't too far off...

I have a cop friend at the gym that went over some of the benefits and overtime allowances... It was impressive. Some of the retirement fund distributions are basically maxed to the legal limit. He's in his late 30's and he'll retire relatively soon.. he was also in the air force, so that didn't hurt him either.

Yep, i'm former LE...and aside from PE, the range, and learning what governs you....everything else should focus on community relations at the academy, and if you can't pass that ...you flunk out

I was just pointing out the numbers you provided account for all civil asset forfeiture and not just cops knocking on doors with warrants taking innocent or guilty persons assets. So, the numbers are skewed.

The fact that it DOES happen to the "innocent" is the bigger problem.

I am pretty neutral about it... On one hand, it doesn't solve anything. On the other, I appreciate the principal of accountability. Cops can literally rape, steal and murder without consequence personally or financially. Who pays when a cop blows an innocent kid's head off? You and I do. Defunding doesn't really solve the problem but at least it's a wake up call that there are, in fact, consequences... What a crazy idea.

The political spectrum in the US is so shifted to the right that it's almost impossible to have any meaningful discussion about it. Anything left of "let the poor starve" is "far-left."

It's mind-blowing.

I definitely agree about splitting up the battle, though. It has become more about screwing the other "team" than actually doing what's good for the country.

I will be visiting the Philippines hopefully in October but it's looking like January. Wanted to lay over and visit Hongkong but with the protests there it will probably be a shithole before long.

He gave tax breaks to the wealthy, he abandoned his populist policies (The only real good reason for voting him in), he failed to get rid of Obamacare... The most widely disliked healthcare policy ever created with Republican majorities across the board. Instead, he made it even worse.. That's right, he made Obamacare worse and replaced with nothing. He started a trade war that accomplished jack shit.. name me a president that has benefited from attacking free trade. We watched what happened with covid across the world and what did he do? Called it a democratic hoax. Failed to get testing and PPE ready when they knew it was coming, they wasted valuable weeks calling it another "hoax" and then allowed the economy to tank.

I could go for a solid hour or two just off the top of my head... There is nothing valuable in Trump unless we're talking about reality TV shows. He's divisive and he couldn't pass a middle school political science quiz... He's real, no doubt.
