Overtraining or just being a pussy?!

I would like to get some input from the group on how they know if they are over trained.

What markers are you looking for? So you feel beat down and worn out....does that mean I need a rest day or I just had an excellent workout and need to hit it again tomorrow?

I struggle with this balancing act of training hard or overtraining.

As someone who experienced long term overtraining that took years to recover fully from, i can share what I remember. Mine was strictly from too much running and not lifting.

Extended muscle soreness.
Sleep disruptions, waking up multiple times and problems falling asleep.
Increased resting heart rate.
Mental fatigue, serious burnt out.
Felt stressed out, would get worked up very easily by work or other life stresses.

It can be a factor from too much training alone, however your diet or food intake, other life commitments, stress outside of the gym, rest days all need to be considered.

What I’ll usually notice is tendinitis, lots of inflammation, sore joints, lethargy and strength stalling or loss of strength. Almost feeling hung over and craving more junk food than usual. I also tend to get very irritable and unmotivated.

Definitely sleep issues, I'd have such light sleep that someone shutting a car door in the street would wake me up. Also had serious stress issues. Probably linked to the lack of sleep. But yeah, overall fatigue was a big problem.

It's usually always underrecovering. The only time it isn't is immediate is injury, imo. Your muscle fibers feel weaker. I'm talking string beans. You can't hold your back flat in deadlift. It's the cns not firing or being able to fire the muscles. Drink, Eat, rest

If you're actually overtrained, I don't think you'd need to ask. You will know.

Overtraining can be good, we all want to be in that phase for a short amount of time prior to a deload so we can force our body to adapt. But, we do need to get to the deload part or it's going to be counterproductive. You just have to manage yourself accordingly.

More aches and pains than usual, dreading the gym rather than looking forward to it, increased heart rate, overall run down feeling, and big decreases in strength.

Many years ago there was a study that indicated if your heart rate upon waking was 5-10 beats faster than normal you were in a state of ketosis/overtraining...

Over training is BS since most people under train. Always push as hard as possible, or else what's the point? Just eat more, sleep more, and stop being a bitch

I think your post is bs. I think a lot of people over train and most under eat. I could push as hard as possible through tendinitis and shoulder pain but then I’d just be a dumbass. Train hard but smart.
If you think overtraining is bs it’s because you personally don’t train hard

Under eat, you just said it. Under recovering, not over train. You don't know anything about me or how I train. All I know about you is based on your avatar, you're a BLM supporting pussy who's understanding of training is probably as out of wack as your understanding of what "peaceful protesting" is

You're wrong. Overtraining is very real, however very few get theirselves into a true long term over trained state. There were some studies done on it, and lyle mcdonald wrote a great 8 part series on it.

As a Runner years ago, I went through what I believe was overtraining. It was a very bad and dark time after I was forced to quit running. Your logic of just not eating enough is broscience at its finest, and shows you lack understanding on the subject.

This is all I'm trying to say. Sure, train 7 days a week 2x/day and I'm sure you'll burn out eventually. But the typical bodybuilding training most do 4-6 days a week, it would be pretty rare to find someone who over reaches. I'm so tired of people who say they "can't" go to failure or do X amount of sets because they will "over train". It's nonsense, especially if you use gear and eat the way you should

read again. Black Lies Matter. For the general fitness crowd I agree they’ll probably never overtrain or even over reach however We’re not talking to the general fitness crowd here unlike bb.com.
I said people are either undereating or over training. I know a lot of people that when they dropped the volume and took time off they started growing and getting stronger and healing up. Before that they were getting nagging injuries, losing strength, feeling lethargic, loss of appetite, general flu like symptoms. People over train it’s not some fucking myth. It’s not going to happen all of the sudden it’s accumulative no matter how many calories you shove down. It’s different for different people but if you’re training hard enough for long enough it will absolutely happen. I have a terrible habit of it because I’m very ocd about certain things.

LOL. You must not stop in here much.
He’s got me. Black Lives Matter and white men are the devil. Now I’m off to go find some random minorities and kiss their feet and apologize for my ugly cracker reflection. Then it’s off to a mostly peaceful protest in the name of Joe Biden or something.

... apologize for my ugly cracker reflection....
It's about damn time you apologize for that scraggly ass look. Now how about you get up out of my face, get your ass in the kitchen, and make me some pie. Before I have to tell you again.
