Absolutely correct...a short, simple history lesson is necessary...go back a little over 100 years...Ukraine was part of Russia...after WW1 they fought for independence and lost...Lenin is in power...Stalin is already conspiring to take over...he murders his political opponents...Lenin dies...Stalin is put in charge...he continues to murder political opponents...he murders military people in order to prevent a coup...he increased industrialization requiring farmers to work in factories...Russian farms aren't able to produce enough food for the factory workers...Stalin goes into Ukraine in 1932 and takes all of their stored grain...soldiers murder and rape thousands of Ukrainians...4 million Ukrainians starve to death...some resort to cannibalism...after WW2 Stalin incorporates all of eastern Europe into USSR...the iron curtain goes into effect...in the 1980s Lech Walensa organizes factory workers in Poland to strike and resist...USSR is going broke...east German wall collapses...east Europe gains independence.......for a ninety years now Ukrainians remember and discuss what happened in 1932 ...screw Putin!...

None of us are experts, I don't know shit about Russia or Ukraine. The more I read the more bizarre and strange Russia seems. Weird fucking country and I'm glad I don't live there.

That said I stand by my position "NO" one should be in possession of nuclear arms and no one should have the power to decide for all of humanity if they'd like to destroy life on this planet.

I'm totally against putting power in the hands of any individuals. I think it's insane to have a president or prime minister with their hands on the button to kill hundreds of millions of people. Even to declare war you need dozens of highly intelligent people from all backgrounds to weigh pros and cons and make sure each of them have children that will go to the front lines themselves to be shot first. Too many of these old rich fucks sending kids to die for no damn good reason.

It already happened, decades ago. The only thing a country becoming NATO means for Putin is that all military hostile takeover options are off the table for that country once it happens.

I never said anything about NATO on the borders.

I said NATO in Ukraine.

Because if Ukraine joined NATO, it changes the dynamic in the break away regions of Donetsk and Ukraine.

Russian backed Donetsk would be fucked if Ukraine joined NATO, because it could very well wind up with NATO backed "peacekeeper" missions in the region.

Its a stretch to call Putin hitler in my opinion. Not a big stretch but a stretch. Hitlers agenda was far more sinister. Putins still a sociopath though, who cares little about his people (and in that regard hes very much like Stalin was) and has no conscience.

Its sad because Russia is a huge country with enormous natural resources and any such country should pretty much be a gimme for becoming a rich and prosperous nation but Russian leadership has never cared much about the prosperity of its people and its rather dismal economic performance is a manifestation of that. On paper Russia should be one of the richest countries on earth and its people too, but with Putin at the helm the peoples prosperity are the furthest thing from his mind and he seems forever stuck in this cold war era mentality of east vs west rivalry. I respect the Chinese government a lot more in this regard, they at least seem to give a shit about the prosperity of their people more than Putin does about Russians.
