The problem with the mRNA vaccine is that it had a massive rollout without long term studies. That's a catastrophe if something goes wrong down the road.

Subunit vaccines are more expensive to produce, but they are the better choice as you are only introducing an antigen into the body in order to get an immune response. Using your cellular machinery to produce your own spike protein was nuts and the only reason it was done was because mRNA vaccines can rapidly be produced and are cheap to make.

And of course this exposed the approach "trust the science". Science is almost the new religion to many people, we have gotten into this rock star admiration for those with scientific credentials and so we trust everything they say.
