1001 Pound Deadlift - Brian Shaw

So what I'm getting outa this is if someone were to be I don't know say 186lb for shits and giggles and deadlifts something hypothetical like 525lb on a regulation bar they'd be stronger then brain shaw.... ;) Hypothetically of course
Idk:(....I flunked math class:rolleyes: Thank god we invented calculators;):D

They'd be stronger than me... if your DL is approaching 3x bodyweight, regardless of what you weigh, you're an animal. There are plenty of women that have better lifts than me in relation to their bw...do I think they are stronger than me?
short answer yes

I'm not downplaying Shaw's strength, I just think the DL isn't the true essence of the strongmans skill set. This is far more impressive to me personally...but I'm a "cool arms bro, what can you do with em?" type guy.

Shaw's 1500lb yoke clearly illustrates why he's on top.

WSM is for powerlifters who are extremely athletic. Brian Shaw is a former basketball player which makes him perfect! I actually really like the WSM competition. It is a true test of applicable strength, agility and fortitude. It's it's nice to see America back on top!

BRIAN SHAW IS BEAST

This is actually a really good idea for a thread, rarely do we have discussions on "What is your perception of strength?"

He is a beast no doubt that's for god damn sure not a person on this planet can say he isn't because year after year he proves to us that not only is he massive but he is also athletic as @gr8whitetrukker said. Powerlifting is a lot of technique and strength for sure but it's defiantly not the same bread as those men. I'd never seriously compare myself to those guys my competition/inspiration is Brett Gibbs and Jessie Norra even though I don't hold a candle compares to their fire but still they are defiantly no WSM like brain is

That is a good question. I don't believe there is an absolute answer.

Sure powerlifters are strong. For 1. But what good does that do if a 220 safety can run you over?
There are levels of strength all around us.

Think MMA or say wrestling or everyday job specific tasks. Do they not qualify as strength? I was a milk man for many years. I can drag 440 lb around with a hook all damn day. Seen big strong guys that come in that couldnt do it. Stronger than me? Probably. But not in my job specific task!

Or say Lance armstrong. Dude can summon strength from places that we don't know. Tour de france? No thanks I'm not that strong.

Or think of women. They give birth. A human being comes out of their fucking vagina! Could you do that? Could I do that, no! I believe my wife is stronger than I am. Sure do

Ive seen crazier lifts from lighter guys than that one,
try again
Link doesn't work or? Works fine from my phone but it jumps to Instagram app because it's a video on there. Either way, it's a damn crossfit coach pulling 800 lbs @ bodyweight of 190. With a regular bar. Oh, and hookgrip

Amazing strength but until it is on a regulation straight bar it doesn't count. Do I think he will be able to do it on a straight bar down the road definitely, he might even be able to do it now as it looked easy for him but as others have said I don't like how he announced on a unregulated bar it takes credit away from those that have done it on a harder straight bar.
