10ml or 20ml or 30ml vials

I took a look at the German site, they also have this one: 4550234.
States it has Particle and Air filter, but no valve. It's $1.97 vs 4550579 with valve @ $3.20. Thoughts?
no need of a valve, it's just a super plus that is not really needed, the valve close the canal as soon as you disconnect the syringe, you can just buy the one with the cap and that's it.

I find this spike are still a pain in the ass if you have to mix oils, when I draw sometime it draws air, you gotta push back all the air plus some oil to start drawing again oil, so if you are drawing with one syringe from multiple spiked vials... well that's gonna be a mess and most of the time not doable.

Better use simple vial spike without filters or just with an air filter, the particle filter is useless anyway if the oil has been filtered properly.

The valve is nice to have but not crucial, especially with oils, which are very slow to leak out, even when removing the syringe while the vial is upside down.

Store the vials upside down to avoid drawing air.

I think for maximum sterility, the mini-spike 2 is easier to clean, with an exposed, flush valve.

I'm having a hell of a time finding the blue, liquid filtered type. If anyone gets a lead please let me know:

B. Braun Item 4550591 (don't go by pics, as many sites have the wrong ones. It just needs to specify "Mini Spike 2 Filter")

Also that brochure has references to interesting studies on why filtration matters, particularly in regard to rubber particles and undissolved elements of lypholized drugs.

I have a website in Europe that has it. Not sure it would interest you tho. Rubber particle is not a problem if you use the spike from the first draw and don't store it upside down so that the oil/solvent don't get in contact with the stopper. All other particles can be a problem

Yes please share it, I've been getting them from Europe.

Regarding stopper particles, the singular penetration of the vial access device creates a lot of them according to this study. Of course, this isn't an issue with a filtered spike, but for those using unfiltered spikes to avoid coring particles from repeated penetrations with a syringe, it's something to keep in mind.

Wow! I would have said that one spike penetration would have not created any coring then if you use an unfiltered spike you are fucked lol... Probably better to just use a needle.. let me get home and I'll share you the website

The ones you linked to previously (lower cost) are not available to the USA. If yiu're referring to a different site now, yes please share.

The few US sources are way too expensive. It's much cheaper to order from Altruan in Germany. They have all models except the one I want, lol.

Which one are you looking for?

If I'm placing through Altruan, then I'm also eyeballing a couple of their other supplies and make use of the shipping charges: syringes: 20ml (8728615) & 50ml (8728844F-06); adult diapers ( SE-094-2X10-A02).

This one (Braun 4550591):

I should just message Altruan I guess. It's the only variant they don't have. Hoping for less than $4 each delivered.

there you go, you can choose the model you want, just select the filtered one on the right.

it's fucking expensive tho

same one just with the different attachment for the syringes cost 50% less

Do you use standard tip for oils or microtip even for oils?

This with the 30ml-50ml vials is a game changer for me.

This is even cheaper and works the same :)

But yeah game changer for 30/50ml vials, I still find difficult to draw into the same syringes from different spike vials :(
The funny thing is you can even reuse the spike for another vial after you finished using it on one.

It's less than $2 per spike and lasts a long time.

Standard tip for oils

Extractables from glass vials is another issue, but the report I read pointed out large containers (with the same volume of liquid) expose the compound to less contact area, and significantly reduce the amount of contaminants that leach into the liquid. So big vials are apparently safer, as long as you're not filling them up.

I'm using one new spike every 30ml vials or 50/100ml jug.

Not sure I wanna use the spike for the media bottle tho. I mean when you pin for the first time the stopper with the spike you ruin it forever. Those silicone septa I have found for media bottle are fucking expensive would be a shame ruining one with the spike. I'll probably just draw from media bottle normally with a needle and then use the spike on vials.

I use the big spike, so it's doesn't move around as much, I pull it out a little to get the last bit of oil. I use the micro spike for 3ml peptide vials.

I am changing my peptide protocol and using .2um PES syringe filters for all of them now, so will switch to unfiltered spikes for them.

I just go around to ordering 4550579 (with valve) from Altruan, the price has dropped from $3.20 to $2.23 each.

I looked into the other spike @Sampei shared from www.praxisdienst.com @ .86¢ each... doesn't look like they ship to N. America (I think you may have already mentioned that), but .86¢ is a great price.
