Ehhhhh I think because they are fantasy and have character progression/specialty tiers to improve they give you the illusion of actually playing the role of that character.

Turn based Pokémon-like combat games would make great RPG's if RPG stood for really poopy games

Yeah, I get where they call it that. It's just so far off from what that originally meant it's not really in the same category to me.

Never played any Pokémon games. I love me some turn based combat though. There's a certain finesse to it that the button mashing games don't have. That's why those FPS games aren't RPGs to me. More like first person adventure with RPG elements. I like the very hard boss fights with turn based combat. It's like a game of chess.

I don't like that they call those kinds of games RPGs. They're obviously FPS games.

This is an RPG, probably the greatest one of all time.

Yeah i wouldn't call them pure RPG's. They do have RPG elements though.

Pokemon was the tits back in the day. The newer gen games kind of fell off though.

I've thought about trying to get into it, but never played any. I like grinding and stat maxing on RPGs though and I assume that's mostly what that is.

I was trying to stat max back in the day before the internet and before there was a word for it. I've always been one to try to figure out and exploit things in games like that.

It might not be the same for you on account of it doesn't have the nostalgia aspect like it does for me....started on the pokemon when inwas like 5 so there is some of thay childhood magic and wonderment that really makes it great for me haha

That's how the old RPGs are to me. Final Fantasy 3 aka Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound and Ogre Battle. I highly recommend you play all those in your lifetime. I might give Pokémon a go. Any of the old titles you recommend? Once I get a TV anyway, lol. I've got my Wii with emulators on it still.

I believe ive played FF6, not the others though. Will have to figure out a way to get to em.

Ummm as far as pokemon goes the first 2 gens are really the best imo. Blue red and yellow for first gen and gold silver and crystal for 2nd gen. And third gen was pretty decent too those are ruby saphire and emerald.

The different colors in their respective generations are all fundsmentally the same games but with minor differences in story and which legendary pokemon you can catch.

Yellow, crystal, and emerald are sort of the special ones where you kind of get every packed into one game.

What console were those for? Gameboy if I recall correctly?

It's been a decade since I've played. Throw me a bone here. Plus I couldn't stop thinking of Indiana Jones hiding in a fridge.
Haha in fairness i just replayed FO3 last month.

Nobody can stop thinking about indy in that fridge, but we wish we could....crystal skull was a goddamned abomination lmao

Eraserhead. 0/10. Wish I could get my time back.
Just watched a 1977 gem of a movie by the name of Eraserhead. I was wondering why they called it that, until the scene where the drilled a hole in a decapitated head and used the brains to make erasers.
I have a lot of questions about the movie, but the main one is, what in the actual fuck did I just watch?
I should have just stuck with the new xXx......

Not a fan of David Lynch movies I'm guessing lol.

I liked Eraserhead. Blue Velvet too. The Elephant Man is great too and it's pretty easy to watch. I thought Dune sucked though, which is a shame because I loved the book (I never read the sequels tho). No idea why anyone thought David Lynch was a good choice to make that book into a movie.

Give Mulholland Drive a watch if you really want to mind-fuck yourself. To this day I still have no real idea what the fuck anything in that movie was.

Netflix?i would like to see that.

Watch dogs 2 was a major improvement from the first. A bit too hipster, but I still had fun. I loved the first tomb raider and the uncharted games. Might have to check out the new one.
I've only played just cause 1 and 2. Couldn't take the horrid acting of the 2nd one.... are you still playing as Skorpio?

Hitman was awesome! It's in par withBlood Money. Very fun, but short.

I didn't know you were a gamer!

Watch Dogs 2 was a lot easier than the first one. Never finished the first one, the end with everything going on, I said fuck this shit I'm done. Fuck yeah Goddamn hipster and fags in WD2! Lol I opened fired on many of em.

I played a little of Just Cause 2, I don't remember much about it. I watched a YT video about the 3rd one. It looked kinda cool blowing up bridges and gas stations so I downloaded it, just need to install it. Fucking PC games take up so much HD space I gotta delete some shit first. Lol

Another game I've been wanting to try is Metal Gear Solid V.

I'll have to check out Hitman. I played a lot of the first one, fucking horrible at it though. Too much sneaking around gets on my nervous, I like to bust the door down and fuck up shit. :) And first person games I'm not a fan of. I like to see the dude you're controlling.

But Yeah I game a little. :p
