Here is an interview with him from a few years ago: CNN.com - Transcripts

Highlights:

KURZWEIL: Well 22,000 software programs called genes evolved thousand of years ago in conditions very different. I give you one example of, out of 23,000. One gene called the fat insulin receptor gene says hold on to every calorie because the next hunting season might not work out so well. That was a great idea 1,000 years ago. And it`s a terrible idea today. It underlies the epidemic of obesity. When that gene was turned off in animals, these animals ate a lot and remained slim. Didn`t get diabetes, they didn`t get heart disease. Lived 20 percent longer. They got the health benefit of caloric restriction while doing the opposite. And there are several pharmaceutical companies rushing to bring that to the human market.

And we have a new technology. RNA interference that can turn genes off. And we have identified other genes that promote disease and aging that we would look to turn off.

BECK: May I be a test person for the fat thing? Seriously.

KURZWEIL: That`s coming.

BECK: America would thank you for that.

KURZWEIL: There`s over 1,000 drugs in the development pipeline using this technique of RNA interference. We have new forms of gene therapy. They can add new genes. So we`re reprogramming the outdated software. So it`s a whole new thing.

BECK: Coming up in a second. Ray Kurzweil will be back. Secret to reversing diabetes and his plans to live forever. Not kidding you. He says he is never going to die. I got a bus waiting for him outside.

BECK: Back with author, entrepreneur and inventor, Ray Kurzweil, at 35 diagnosed with type II diabetes, gone now, you reversed it?

KURZWEIL: The conventional approach made it worse. So I decided to immerse myself in the scientific literature. I came up with an approach that reversed it and haven`t had any indication of diabetes for the last 22 years.

BECK: Excuse me for not knowing anything about diabetes, but that`s really rare isn`t it?

KURZWEIL: That is rare. Now, actually we have better knowledge. So some of the ideas that I have articulated in several books is now more mainstream. So we are doing a better job of controlling diabetes.

BECK: And you actually believe that you can, you may, unless you get hit by that bus I have waiting for you outside, that you can live forever, you are already taking, how many what is it, 230?

KURZWEIL: I cut it down. It`s like 150 pills a day.

BECK: Do you ever just kickback and go I couldn`t have another pill, uh, under your belt?

KURZWEIL: Not a big deal. I do it while checking e-mail.

BECK: OK.

KURZWEIL: But I wrote a book with Dr. Terry Grossman, talks about three bridges to radical life extension. Bridge one we can do to keep us healthy. I am 60 years old. But I am biologically much younger. To keep us young and healthy until we get to the next bridge which is the full flowering of this biotechnology revolution where it can reprogram the outdated software that runs in our bodies.

And a Wired article from 2005: Never Say Die: Live Forever

As part of his daily routine, Kurzweil ingests 250 supplements, eight to 10 glasses of alkaline water and 10 cups of green tea. He also periodically tracks 40 to 50 fitness indicators, down to his "tactile sensitivity." Adjustments are made as needed.

And here's a movie:

Kurzweil admits that he cared little for his health until age 35, when he was diagnosed with a glucose intolerance, an early form of type II diabetes (a major risk factor for heart disease). Kurzweil then found a doctor that shares his non-conventional beliefs to develop an extreme regimen involving hundreds of pills, chemical i.v. treatments, red wine and various other methods to attempt to live longer.

Kurzweil ingests "250 supplements, eight to 10 glasses of alkaline water and 10 cups of green tea" every day and drinks several glasses of red wine a week in an effort to "reprogram" his biochemistry.[44] Lately, he has cut down the number of supplement pills to 150.[45]

Kurzweil has authored three books on the subjects of nutrition, health and immortality: The 10% Solution for a Healthy Life, Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever and TRANSCEND: Nine Steps to Living Well Forever.[46] In all, he recommends that other people emulate his health practices to the best of their abilities.

Kurzweil and his current "anti-aging" doctor, Terry Grossman, MD., now have two websites promoting their first[47] and second book.[48]

$$$$

A few years back, I bought and read Kurzweil's book "The Age of Spiritual Machines" because I was impressed with the accuracy of his foresight in the book "The Age of Intelligent Machines."

However, after reading it, I was more interested in his psychology than the subject matter of the book. In the book, he is very optimistic about artificial intelligence. So very optimistic, that you start wondering what he's smoking. By the end of the read, it was my opinion that he's really, really, really afraid of his own mortality, and is banking on the invention of artificial intelligence so that he can transfer his consciousness into a hard drive, and live forever.

My deduction wasn't so difficult to come by: the central point of the book is to say that we're right on the cusp of developing this technology, and that before you know it, half of the population is going to be living as a virtual entity, residing exclusively in digital space, immortal and without flesh.

I'm a skeptic, of course, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. However, if I'm right, I don't know if that negatively or positively affects his credibility in regards to what pills one should take to extend one's lifespan.

Cholesterol Therapy

Cholesterol still plays a major role in the new inflammation-based understanding of heart disease. The inflammation process starts with excess LDL ("bad cholesterol") particles burrowing into walls of the coronary arteries lining and become oxidized. A critical approach to reducing cardiovascular risk is to keep LDL cholesterol at an optimal level.
According to the Ray & Terry Longevity Program, the optimal range for total cholesterol is 160 to 180. Ideally, LDL Cholesterol should be less than 100, unless you have multiple risk factors for heart disease, in which case it should be less than 80. HDL-Cholesterol ("good cholesterol") should be 60 or higher.

Ray and Terry recommend adopting a healthy diet by following the nutritional recommendations in Chapters 4-8 of Fantastic Voyage. Most importantly, you should sharply reduce saturated fat, which is the most significant dietary influence.

The ingredients in Ray & Terry's Cholesterol Therapy have mechanisms that are independent from statins. Cholesterol Therapy contains several natural ingredients that work independently to help maintain a normal cholesterol level. These include: niacinamide, policosanol, gugulipid, plant sterols, garlic and cayenne.

Niacinamide can be converted in the body into niacin. Niacinamide doesn't cause a flush like niacin itself. Periodic monitoring of blood work (liver function tests, uric acid, glucose) is recommended when taking niacinamide, particularly the first few months.1

Policosanol, a natural compound derived from sugar cane, is an important supplement that works to support normal overall cholesterol levels. It plays a role in maintaining normal levels of HDL ("good" cholesterol) and helps to inhibit the oxidation of LDL ("bad" cholesterol). Policosanol may also assist in maintaining proper blood flow through the circulatory system, thereby supporting cardiovascular health.2

Gugulipid works synergistically with policosanol to maintain cholesterol levels within a normal range.3

Plant sterols are another very effective natural supplement for supporting healthy lipid levels. 4

Garlic has been shown to protect against free radical damage.5

Dosage: 2 capsules per day. Daily amount can be divided and taken throughout the day.

Ray & Terry's Cholesterol Therapy contains 120 capsules per bottle.

Ray & Terry's Cholesterol Therapy is equally effective when taken with or without food. However, if your digestive system is sensitive, you may want to take your supplements with meals.

Well so much for this GURU.

By the end of the read, it was my opinion that he's really, really, really afraid of his own mortality, and is banking on the invention of artificial intelligence so that he can transfer his consciousness into a hard drive, and live forever.

Yes, I agree. This and he wants to try to bring back his father. He has a storage unit full of all his father's personal belongings so that some future "AI" can study it all and become some version of his dead father. I'm about two-thirds through the film I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread. It goes into all this. The film is quite interesting actually.

Not to hijack, but Johnny Cash took 60 "uppers" and 60 Downers/day when he peaked.:drooling::D So they say....

The trailer was definitely interesting. This guy isnt just a crackpot. It was the party line re cholesterol that did it for me.

One last thing:
I emailed Ray&Terry asking if they would publish their lipids labs (VAP) as Gary Taubes has done. For such a smart guy whose father died two years older than himself, I cant see why he sticks with the cholesterol theory of atherosclerosis.
