What does everyone think about this diet. It is three days all protien and fat and one day all carbs with a little protien. I was wondering if anyone tried it and if it works.

Define "a little protein."

Why so little protein?

What do you think happens when your body is used to getting a ton of protein then all of a sudden you only get 50g in a day?
Probably not much, but its not a good idea. At the least I would eat closer to 1g/lb.

There was a similar eating program published on T-mag a few years ago that talked about protein cycling. Supposedly it was based on European research, blah blah blah. My good buddy Lyle McDonald sent T-mag a letter exposing all the misinterpretations of research, wrong premises, and unrelated research used by the doctor that wrote the article. Basically the idea of protein cycling (from normal to low levels) is a bad idea.

Doubtful, at least not in nearly the same terms as going from normal to low. If you look through (or can even find) the original article on T-mag, you can read that and then some of the email responses back and forth between Lyle, T-mag and the doc. IIRC, the article was during the first 10 or 15 issues of T-mag.

Here is a link to the original article. http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do;jsessionid=E0BCCA9487B179B17B1B5142C088F04C.ba13?article=10maxim

If that doesnt work, then do a search for "protein cycling for maximum gains."

And here is Lyles lengthy response shooting holes left and right into the idea of protein cycling. Lyles question is the 3rd or 4th one down. http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=460390

Notice how the doctor immediately turns to personal insults and tries to make himself look cool by saying that Lyle is small. Sounds like something Kerry would say in response to questions about his Senate record. :D

Responses in the Reader Feedback section also appear in issues 19, 20, 21 and Im checking out 22 and 23.
