another shoulder injury

Is your knee pain behind and around kneecap? Between 20 degree or more of flexion? Gets worse under load? Patello-Femoral syndrome?
It's actually below the knee on the outside - in the calf tendon. The "official" diagnosis is Runner's Knee, even though that happens above the knee most of the time. They say mine is the result of poor hip mobility. Not sure if that's caused by long hours riding a mountain bike or a desk, but more likely one of those than lifting.

I think PFS and runners knee are synonymous... Patellar maltracking usually the cause. lateral structures over power the vmo and pull patella out of alignment. Yours may be different but I'm doing a lot of vmo strengthing ing and ITB stretching. Going to tape patella medially today before squats. Think it will really help. I'll let you know

Good questions, as that can help the doc pinpoint the problem and be able to get it corrected. What about heat, as sometimes heat can alleviate pain in joints

Both my patellas track wide. The right one developed a divot in the center as a result, and I needed surgery to fix it. That was maybe 2004. The doc commented on it this time, and said it was caused my extremely flat feet. She hinted at corrective shoes which I ignored. Interested in how the tape works, though.

Tape could not withstand the epic forces I was asking of it :) I need 'strapping' tape but I got K tape... I kno it's pfs though. Forsure. If I really concentrate and contract vmo in. Movement I have no pain. If I forget - excruciating on loaded movements

I have FLAT ass feet too... Dam. I see what I have to look forward too... Mine are still flexible flat though. Try brooks adrenaline running shoe and regular power step orthotics. Combo has been better than any custom orthotic

I was thinking taping the knee was going to be a problem. I could get it to sort of work on my shoulder after the first injury, but only as a reminder. It didn't amount to much real force.

I apparently have two tiny muscles in my butt that have never been worked before. Since nothing else is sore, it's the strangest DOMS I've ever had. It feels like I got hit in the ass by a bull's horns.

Shoulder day was pretty mild. The only thing she had me do that I don't already do is reverse flies. She was very specific about form to avoid engaging either the lats or the traps. Once I got the form right it was all I could do to lift my unweighted arms the required 30 reps.

Squats on Sunday were mostly without the knee pain that has been a constant since I returned to the gym 3 years ago. I have to concentrate on driving with the inside of my foot, and even then I can feel it on the way down occasionally. The PT told me it will probably be gone completely in a couple of weeks. I'm almost happy I hurt my shoulder now. I doubt I would really have made an appointment just for the knee. I have always assumed it would take surgery to fix, and the pain was more of a nuisance than it was debilitating.

That's great to hear..adjusting the stance surely is a big help

Fire that VMO! Congrats on the positive outcome
