Ass to grass vs. Parallel squats

Ass to grass was natural since the day you were born. If it feels unnatural you fucked yourself up in the past and need to fix the problem so you can squat naturally again. It puts more stress on your body to stop the weight anywhere other than atg.

Watch how any child squats naturally before a lifetime of incorrect and harmful movements. There is your answer.

I always see older Asians squatting like that at busstops. Their the same ones I usually see doing Tai Chi also. Good post Brutus!

Both are very effective muscle builders. The reality is most guys in the gym aren't getting anywhere close to parallel.

Whichever you feel comfortable with as long as you are really hitting parallel or below with good form you are in good shape. Having said that ATG looks way more bad ass for what it is worth.

I think you got me all wrong. I AM into real bodybuilding. But still have to maintain acceptable levels of strength. Maybe not as much as say a powerlifter who trains exclusively for 1 rep but enough to not be laughed at
Why would it matter if you got laughed at? Are you working out for other people's acceptance or for yourself? Again just trying to expand the argument, but trying to be a dick in any way

Well - just got thru trying to do 300x10x10 ATG like I did a month ago , it was a fail at the 7th set , 8th rep . My get-up-and-go , got-up-and-went.....

Im amazed how I have strong days and then not-so-strong days ....ever notice that some days you can take on the world , other days you can barely do your warm-ups ...

300 in a 10 x 10 is sick... been jealous since you did it weeks ago. Bad ass my friend. Bad ass.

To start going ATG you need to completely start over. Well, I had to at least. Drop the weight to 135 and go up from there. Last year I could do 365x8 parallel, brutus got me into ATG in September maybe? That's 5-6 months ago and I'm still trying to build back up to that 365. It feels much better for me and I won't go back.
I had to start over as well. ATG is the way to go for me!

Funny Brutus you posted that being half Korean myself we call it the kimchee squat and even till this day my grandmother @75 and great grandmother @93 still squat around like that. Completely natural and hours at a time.

Aye everyone dissing deadlifts here is correct, look at Ronnie he has built likely best ever back in Olympia without... oh wait also they are not part of the big 3 in powerlifting because... oh wait. Perhaps back can be built using all the other exercises but so can legs not ever squatting. However, have fun building erector spinae (not really a big muscle just covering our entire backs) not ever doing deadlifts. Both are equally as good.

Deadlifts are a whole other discussion. I think the same thing goes for them as for squats... With proper technique and control, there shouldn't be any pain. Many people that deadlift pull with their back bent and hammies loose. Makes me cringe every time I see them. In summary, deadlift form should look very similar to squat form.

EDIT: Personally though, I like to only go heavy on ONE (squat or DL) per week. That way I can still hit legs and back twice a week without burning out.

Ive been moping around trying to figure out whats went wrong , then it hit me ....Ive been off-cycle for 7 weeks ! Duh---That will do it !
Me too these last few weeks on pct has been a muthafucker. Haven't even felt like coming on meso to even read. Fortunately I've been able to crawl out bed and hit the gym 6 days a week. Seems almost like borderline depression. 2 weeks ago lost one of my dogs I had for 13 years cried half the night. Buried him in the back yard under a pecan tree and poured a slab as a memorial. Wife thought that was excessive still wants me to see a doctor.

Your right...I give up.

Here are your aerobic weights. Color coded for you. The heaviest being 20 lb. Squat with that. Youll fit right in.

If your intimidated with being in the free weights section. The women's class is Wednesday's at 9. Complete with hair nets and retirees here for swimming class. Join in sounds right for you.

I'm with you on deadlifts but then again I'm a powerlifter. Hard to argue with the back development of upper level powerlifters who aren't extremely overweight.

I will say that there are some people who have leverages which make deadlifting a riskier proposition but I think most people's problem with deadlifting is poor form and either simply trying to do too much weight or ay too many reps. Deadlifting is a low rep movement IMO.

Sorry to hear about the dog. I put my down about 5 years ago. He lived to 16. He was a big ole dog too. 110lbs of love and appetite (lean). I cried for days, man. He went everywhere with me. Ugh. I haven't gotten another dog yet. I am ready, just don't have the time for one, which is ashame. My two cats are dog like and funny as hell. Best cats I have ever seen.

Low dose proviron with the clomid and hcg seems to give me a lift while in pct mode without disrupting the recovery.

Heal up OGH.

Thanks will definitely look into that on my next go around.

You are partially correct. A2G high bar squats are safe and make a lot of sense for athletic purposes. If you can't reach there then it is likely you have some disfunction.

However, you should never try to go low bar A2G. This is inviting issues such as butt wink and other problems. Low bar is quite simply the easiest way to shift massive amounts of weight. It involves much more glute and ham, but this glute and ham tension should be maxing out for a rebound effect at parralel.
