CAR STEREOS. WHO LIKES EM LOUD!

I'm pissed.... just bought a 2018 volvo t8. It has everything. Autopilot, 4 cylinder 2 liter 418 hp that gets 70 miles to the gallon. And 3 rows of seats.

Got a jl audio w7 12" and an hd 1000 hp amp to give it 1000w at 3 ohms. The w7's are.... aggressive.

Wait a month for a jl shop to get me in and.... they can't do it. The entire car is a supercomputer that is all fiberoptic. Fucking fuck.

I have some guys down south that work on Bentleys and rolls.... I'm probably going to have to pay more for the install than the 2500 I dropped on the damn sub and amp.

I care that much lol. Grew up with that shit. The louder music is- when it's so loud you almost cant breathe- I'm at my calmest.

I never really wondered why, but I was up north and had dinner with my dad and sister. He told me I was a 7 and my sister was a 5... what did he mean? He said he needed the stereo at a 7 to not hear me cry in my crib when he got stuck watching me. So, I figure loud music soothed me then, it soothes me now. Run it.
split a speaker feed to gain access to the speaker level audio. Install a step down transformer to drop the voltage to line level. I suggest any product that uses Jensen transformers (best electrical designs on the planet for transformer applications). Feed the line level into your amp. No fiber decoding needed, unless the speakers take fiber?

Power was the other problem he said. I wouldn't do shit to this car myself... I have put plenty of stereos in- not in something I dropped this much on. I might kill myself if I screwed something up.

And I'm pretty sure the speakers take fiber. The guy was complaining that there is no set frequencies going to each speaker so there is no way to know where the full spectrum of bass would be. They had some bowers and Wilkins option that was almost 4k that I didn't want to pay for... that choice ended up costing me a lot more since the stock audio doesnt have a sub.

You don't get sick of driving from all the driving you did for work? I spent a lot of years on the road in the tri state area- made me loathe driving. Years behind a phone makes me hate the phone... when I worked in a grocery store as a young lad I hated food lol
Definitely different strokes for different folks. Unlike my brother in law I could care less about the sound of a loud truck or car, hell I even helped him redo his 77 cutlass from the ground up. I think it's one of those times where you either get it or you don't both ways. Just like lifting, most of my friends just don't understand why I "waste my time lifting" lol. That's not to say I don't appreciate certain bad ass cars like the hellcat ;)

Wild. What a time we live in when you damn car audio is all fiber. So much for ignition induced hum! I remember installing and tuning B&W in home theaters. Good speakers. The day Macintosh audio hits the automotive industry I'm moving laterally into that field lol

They do make amps. Fucking pricey... but with those cool blue/green screens

Yeah man, cost is a factor with them. The audio quality is lost on almost every ear that hears them but it is without a doubt top of the line gear. Most expensive residential gear I've installed.

I know a little something about the tri state area ;) I'm thinking about the HCCA 12s for my subs hcca124mainwl.jpg

Hay i used to work in a car audio shop in my younger yrs. Things have advanced & changed so I might have some questions for ya when I start putting everything together.

My dad is a wealthy audiophile. Excited when he gets used tower speakers for 15k each kind of guy... all mac stack for sure.

Bro... w7 jl. Nothing sounds better... deep, rich with no overtravel or distortion. They will amaze you... 1 12" with at least 1k watts at 3 ohms sounds louder and cleaner than any 2 12" set ups I have ever heard.
I definitely hear you, the w7s are fucking amazing. Im just getting my hobby restarted & the price point of 700 for 2 HCCAs is easier for my wife to deal with lol. I'll work my way up once she gets on board like she always does. But I agree JL has always been an amazing sounding brand.

Lol, 1st world issues right there. I'm rocking a 15" velodyne sub from maybe the late 90s, crown cts pushing that baby. Old JBL speakers for the rest except my outdoor stuff. All cheap and free so I love it!

I had a nice klipsch set up back in the day... klipsch / pioneer was always a bit tinny but load as fuck. Sold it all for an ounce of coke... cost me at least 8k. I haven't had the heart to get another. I just have some crappy soundbar someone gave me

Ouch, Hope it was some diesel fuel! Sound is sound I guess. I had a nice PA system when I was in a band but that all went to pay for other sins....

Into video a bit now. I have a wicked sweet projector but it hardly ever gets used. It's a digital projection d-vision xl. Maybe 200 hours on the damn thing. Need the audio to match that guy!

Finally got my system in! Simple jlw7 10" in a custom ported box with dual center supports, jl hd750 amp and I need to get an alpine preamp to boost the signal because the fibre optic signal has shit power... it's not perfect because you have to filter out the highs at the amp- there is no split in tone- it's just audio out fiber to the speakers and the head unit decides what signal to send to the speaker its connected to.... since the sub isn't recognized as a speaker you have to hijack the whole signal, and you can't use a signal converter because you have to send the whole signal to different places and I only have a sub. So, the bass on the head unit controls the bass to the sub which isn't optimal- but real talk the thing hits better than most dual 12's I have heard and is super clean. Only a grand to install including the preamp- I thought I was gonna get fucked way harder than that... plus a rental car while they installed but whatever.

All I know is I am one of the very few with a brand new xc90 with a system. Makes me so happy to get headaches from my stereo like the old days.
