I was browsing through some articles on Strength training and came across this. I thought this was an interesting article discussing the difference between power lifting and body building.

Please don’t jump all over me about the content in the article. I’m not sure what’s right or wrong and people get so touchy about this this kinda of shit. Anyway it’s “Very basic” but to the point and gives enough info but obviously it leaves plenty of room to do your own research.

I could not find any kind of sticky or article discussing the difference/comparison between the two. I think it would be nice to have and maybe one of you OG’s could write a better one for us. If this a dumb idea then no worries . Also If anybody could recommend a good Strength trading routine I would appreciate it.

Download the free 5x5 app, when you graduate the 12 week course you can upgrade for $9.99 the remaining lower rep programs.

You might be shocked at how small the weights are to start with but you increase them every work out, they add up quick.

First app I ever downloaded and I love it.

Yeah thanks man sounds interesting. Though I’m looking for a rountine that isn’t a app and that’s preferable free.

Juggernaut is a good program for strength and it includes a lot of hypertrophy work as well.

Also, I've never used it but, Layne Norton's PHAT routine looked cool and is broken up into hypertrophy and strength training... I'm guessing that's what you're probably interested in.

You don't have to use the app for 5x5 if you don't want to... Just makes it more convenient. It's a relatively well known program, not just an app. It's not really my favorite though, better for beginners...

I agree with @Eman. I'm not a huge fan of 5x5. It's pretty basic and better suited for beginners. As people who are using PEDs, k would like to think we're a little more "advanced" lifters. I like Layne Norton's PH3. Check that out. It's basically just an improvised version of phat.

Actually I’ve heard people’s talk about the phat routine but never knew what it was.
Its weird my lifts have improved lately for legs and shoulders but have declined on chest and arms. I am not sure if it’s because of to much volume and frequency or what, but’s that’s my guess. When ever I go super heavy I am sore and weaker for my next workout.

I thought that after enough time and consistency of my workouts that the weight would feel lighter. I’m kinda stuck to just doing higher volume with lighter weight. I’m currently 24 days into my blast and I’m really not getting any strength gains yet, just more endurance.

I think the PHAT routine or the PH3 one would be helpful for you because you can keep doing a lot of the stuff you're already doing.

A big component to strength is resting more... Which is counterintuitive for a lot of lifters. Some guys have to go down to training just 3 times per week to allow numbers to continue progressing... Which isn't what many guys want to hear when they're used to bodybuilding style training.

I saw feet results from PH3. It was my first timing with a focus on strength training. I’d definitely recommend it for those that aren’t new to training.

Once again thanks for your advice. I found a great write up by Layne Norton on Mega Feature: Layne Norton Training Series + Full Power/Hypertrophy Routine (Updated 2011) | SimplyShredded.com
I think I’m going to switch it up starting next week. The split is exactly what I’m doing now.

An example of the split would be:

  • Day 1: Upper Body Power
  • Day 2: Lower Body Power
  • Day 3: Rest
  • Day 4: Back and Shoulders Hypertrophy
  • Day 5: Lower Body Hypertrophy
  • Day 6: Chest and Arms Hypertrophy
  • Day 7: Rest
Yes only working out 3 days a week would be awkward. I like it because it includes power and hypertrophy days but more weight and less reps. Def looks legit.

Looks could be deceiving. Doing 3x week training now after 4x for several months previously. Great change of pace mentally and physically. More is not always better.
Rest and Recovery is key.
