Counter intuitive but great for dropping fat or bulking. Level of leanness determines how long of a cheat amongst other variables.
I'll definitely look more into it. Not a nutrition expert so I'm always willing to hear out other theories that have been tried. I've always just been more of a clean foods advocate for health reasons especially as I'm getting older but if I can still shed fat having a whole cheat day every so often that sounds like fun lol
 
Terms like "refeed" "diet break" and "cheat days" are largely just semantics.

What folks must understand is that labeling things as "cheats" tends to just put a label on foods that can sometimes lead to negative relationships with food over time. Even on diets, with the exception of deep into preps, there should be very little limitation on food selection. Having a breadth of food choices tends to help with dietary compliance.

Now, where calorie shifting/toggling can be advantageous is with regard to helping reverse the negative metabolic adaptations that come with sustained periods of intake deficits. However, in order to properly take advantage, they need to be structured properly. A single day in intake surplus (commonly called "refeed day" or "cheat day") will do very little to reverse metabolic adaptations but it can be helpful from a mental perspective. For some, it can also acutely help with performance and cognition.
