Do I need the $200 magnetic hotplate stirrers or can I just use a $30 hotplate, an electronic thermometer, and stir it with a stirring stick?

As title says. Everyone's talking about dropping $200-250 on these magnetic hotplate stirrers and whatnot. I'm only brewing enough for myself. This will work, correct? If not, why?

yeah you dont need the fancy magnetic stirrers /heaters but they do make life easier.
and by the way you can buy one around 60 bucks on aliexpress, got one myself and it works great. it doesn't have all the bells and whistles but you get hot plate, mag stirrer and temp probe/control.

You just need a stove. Heat it up to the first or second setting. If you can just barely touch it without getting burned it's 50-60 degrees Celsius. That's good enough to dissolve any common brew

I just pick up and swirl as warm to touch
