Does anyone smoke or vape? Had success quitting?

Smoked, switched to vaping and stopped cold turkey 2 years ago. I don't know why or how but it was surprisingly easy. That said, I had everything sorted in my life at the time and low stress environment. I can't say I noticed any withdrawal past a week even though I vaped a shit ton.

Don't miss it at all. I think the extent of withdrawal really has more to do with your general mood and how your life is...

Not denying the withdrawal, but it's really not bad if you're in a good spot right now. If you're however smoking/vaping because it "helps" ease anxiety/depression or whatever, then sure withdrawal will be worse.

PS: Also recommend Allen Carr's method. Easy way to stop smoking.

I've always assumed social pressure gets people to smoke cigarettes long enough to become hooked on nicotine. I can't imagine anyone tastes that nasty crap the first time and thinks "this is delicious, let me have another".
You’re probably right there mate, at least to some degree. Was almost certainly true for me when I started smoking in my very early teens - “oooh, I’m such a grown-up by puffing on a fag” kinda thing.

Thing is though your perception of the taste of cigs very quickly changes & they genuinely become pleasurable for most & it isn’t just physical addition that keeps you smoking.

Long story short: Nicotine stimulates the growth of new receptors in your brain that eventually overpower the initial "disgust" signal with "This is quite nice, actually".

I started vaping 6 years ago. Was doing some work with my buddy and after we grabbed lunch he wanted to stop by 7/11 to grab a vape. He comes out with this cool device that tastes like blueberries and made me feel awesome. I was like fuck it, I'll try one too.

Then I started dating a chick that was smoking Juul (remember those things?) and they had this awesome cucumber flavor that I loved.

Don't think I went a day without sending constant nicotine MOABs into my bloodstream all fucking day for like 3.5 years.

By this point around 2023 I had one of those refillable vapes where you had to buy the pre-packaged coils.

Was living in a smallish town at the time and there was only one vape store across town. Get down there and they didn't have the coil that fit my device. Fuck! I was already fiending, so I bought some of those Zyn pouches that were getting really popular at the time just to satisfy the nicotine urge.

I ended up kinda liking them. I was already toying with the idea of quitting in my head, but didn't feel like dealing with it. This made it super easy. I was pretty happy with that.

Vaping the high-concentration salt-nicotine is like the cocaine of nicotine. Big, quick spike that fades quickly. The pouches are more of a slow-burn that you can leave in for an hour before it fades away. Much healthier.

Below is the pharmacokinetics of nicotine pouches vs. cigarettes. Couldn't find a study that compared pouches to vaping. Red is pouches, everything else is ciggies. Ciggie peak is a little quicker, but still pretty similar to vapes. Pouches are a lot less insane.

I did relapse back to vapes 6 months ago and used them for two months straight. Was seeing a girl that used the disposable vapes, which is like Juul on steroids. Was smoking it with her all night and ran out and bought the same disposable the next day. Started feeling pathetic when I'd run out of the gym and start chiefing some shit called "Atlanta Mint" as soon as I'd get to my car. Switched back to the pouches without any withdrawal.

I switched to vaping to quit smoking and found having good flavors really helped keep me on track. For anyone looking to explore a variety of options, ejuicedb.com has a massive selection of e-liquids to try. Finding the right flavor can seriously make a big difference in staying committed.

Smoked a pack a day for 24 years and quit over a decade ago cold turkey. Meet some people with cancer or later stage copd and it’s easy to put them down. I didn’t want to be in my 50’s and be tied to a damn oxygen tank/concentrator.

I've quit smoking and picked it back up again a couple times. In my experience "nicotine substitutes" only made it worse. With vaping I was hitting the pen pretty much every 20-30 minutes as it isn't as restricted as smoking is. Nicorette gum, the same thing, and it wasn't financially sustainable to be chewing 3-4 of those a day or more (plus sometimes I chewed enough of them to give me diarrhea lol). I tried Zyns since they recently started selling them in my country and that shit gave me horrible heartburn (which I already take medication for) and hiccups. Plus any of those substitutes just made me crave "the real thing" more, oddly enough, even when I mixed lots of nicotine into my vaping liquids.

My most succesful experience was 20 months without smoking, which started during the pandemic as I couldn't go out to buy cigarettes, and I picked it back up when I started university lol. Quitting cold turkey was the best for me and my advice is to stay the fuck away from situations where you usually smoked (specially parties/pubs/etc) while you still have the physical withdrawal, which in my experience was around 3-4 weeks. The "mental" sensation of withdrawal will stay with you pretty much forever as far as I can see tho, it's just a case that the intense craving will come and go with less and less frequency. Also try and throw out your ashtrays/lighters and clean your whole house after as even the smell of cigarette butts can and will trigger cravings.

And of course you'll need to handle stress appropriately, either by trying to cut off stressful situations (pretty hard in uni lol) or if you can't avoid them by dealing with the stress in healthier ways

Have never smoked tobacco, but this is the real drug taking years off peoples lifes. Yul Brynner said he guessed it took abou twenty years off his life. Like any bell curve, there are outlier who can smoke from age 13 to their death at eighty two , like great aunt anna. Other people wont last untill 65, if they started at 13 years old.

Nicotine is not harmful at all used in moderation.

I smoke cannabis, maybe two decent sized bowls a day. I didnt start untill six yeas ago. For nineteen years before that, I bodybuilded.

I smoked cigarretes for 10 years during my teenage years. At some point I was smoking 2 packs a day.
I tried to stop many times (2 times), but couldn't do it.
I finaly said, no, that's it, I will not be a ciggarete smoker anymore, that's a habit for brokies, and decided to go to a doctor.
He prescribed me with Dextazin (Cytisinicline).
It was probably one of the best decisions I've done in my entire life. I only some cigars now.

I smoked a pack a day during college. I finally quit bc I got sick of the constant gunky throat and clearing it all the time. I finally just said I'm done and stopped cold turkey. Not easy and I do think I remember having a social cigarette on occasion for a few months after and I tried the camel snus bc it was new at the time but that was it. Picked up eating instead and gained like 50 lbs but eventually got it back off

I didn't read the thread to see if anyone suggested this. But I smoked probably 25 years sometimes up to 4 packs a day. I used Chantix. It has some side effects but made quitting super easy. You could blow smoke in my face and I didn't care. Quitting was one of the best things I did.
