Filtration Porn

After reading through some other psots, I think I've pinpointed my problem with vacuum filtration. Maybe. I'll have to experiement here and see.
The filters I was using were PES, and that's not compatible with either BA or BB. So my filters were probably failing prematurely and slowing down badly. I'll try again with PTFE membranes, and see if that fixes it or not.
As far as the peristaltic pump goes, no, I didn't use clamps or zip ties, because, yes, I was a fucking idiot. And I was trying to do something else what that was running, and didn't realize that the hose had blown off until I'd lost a fair amount. Yeah, I felt really stupid.

I was using a Dispensette for filling vials; I was running the parts through an ultrasnoic to clean, and then bagging and autoclaving them. I tried a different brand of bottletop dispenser than Brandtech at first, and it turns out that either the BA or the BB was not compatible with the plastics they used, and the whole thing fell apart after using it 3-4 times. Your dispensing pump sounds like a better option, since you can use it to run filtration as well.

So brother when you're talking about using vacuum filtration that is when you used the PES membrane? If so yes it's going to be very slow never mind the fact that the chemical compatibility does not match a PES membrane. However I've heard of people using them because if you look at the chemical compatibility chart if I remember correctly it doesn't say that they cannot come in contact with be a BA, and BB for long periods of time.. However I still highly recommend a hydrophobic PVDF or PTFE membrane for vacuum filtration. Unlike a PES or nylon membrane which is hydrophilic these are hydrophobic. Therefore being as though it's hydrophobic which technically repels water or liquid you ƙlnd then wet the filter before putting it into the filter funnel. Personally I like to soaked mine in a glass of BA that has a lid that so no air can get in and I let the filter soak in BA while I'm making my Brew so it sits there for about 15 minutes allowing it to activate meaning the media your filtering will flow through it faster ( should be aminimum of 1000 ml in 20 minutes but you can filter up to about 1700 ml through a 90 mm hydrophobic pvdf or PTFE membrane in 30 minutes give or take 5 minutes and it also makes it wet so that when you put it into your filter funnel and apply some vacuum pressure it will suck it down tight against the poor plate therefore no oil can run down the side and under the membrane.nit has to go through the filter.

As far as a preilastic pump goes yes you have to use zip ties especially on the tube that attaches to the top of the capsule filter. As for as using a pump like this that you can program to dispense 10 ml with whatever pause in between you want I still recommend you stick with a dispense at bottle top dispenser. Speaking of that I'm going to send you a PM.
