Women-Only First Anavar Cycle Log

Hi all,

I’m new here, been lurking for some time and trying to go as much knowledge as possible. Roughly 6 1/2 weeks into my first ever AAS cycle and thought I would give my perspective.

background -
Currently 32 y/o, 5’6, 147lbs (at start of cycle)
Grew up as a nationally competitive dancer who took on weight lifting for roughly a year at the end of high school for fun. Sports injuries, college and life got in the way and was weighing in at just shy of 200lbs when I hit 30 y/o and decided it was enough. Rediscovered my love of lifting, learned to battle my food addiction and spent basically the entire year of 2019 in a consistent cut, dropped 60lbs at a pace of 6 pounds per month, all the while lifting and progressing on all my numbers at the gym.

Never seriously considered AAS, always scared the crap out of me and wanted to “do it on my own” (I know, I know lol). Fast forward to the summer, gym opened back up, a lot in my life had changed and I decided I wanted to take it to the next level if I could do it safely. In comes tons of research to find the best, safest first compound and no surprise that I discovered Anavar.

Goals - fat loss/body recomp
Cycle - 2 weeks at 5mg am only, 6 weeks at 5mg
Nutrition - 1400-1500 cals per day, 40f/130c/150p, hard cheat on Saturday
1 gallon of water per day minimum
Training - 5 days per week, push/legs1/upper/off/legs2/pull/off
Cardio very sparingly, at most 10-20min LISS/MISS on stepper

Starting lifts- these are all down from previous highs
Bench - 145x5
Squat - 205x4
Deadlift - 225x6

Starting measurements (R/L)
Biceps - 13.75/13.25
Quads - 23.25/23.25
Waist at belly button - 32.5
Hips - 37.25

After 6 weeks-
Bench - 165x5
Squat - 235x5
Deadlift - 255x5

measurements - 151.1lbs
Biceps - 13.5/13.25
Quads - 23.25/23.25
Waist - 31
Hips - 37

Sides-
Possibly some water retention but will know more once I finish the cycle and come off
Few extra hairs on chin/neck area
Lethargy later in the day, more so than before cycle

current thoughts -
really enjoying the strength gains in the gym, feel like I am getting some new definition throughout my upper body even considering how much fat I’m still holding onto, somewhat disappointed that I am not seeing more fat loss in my mid section for the deficit I’ve been in but I have not been perfect so it’s hard to say. In general, for eating in a deficit the strength gains have been really exciting and about what I expected.

For these last two weeks I will be eating at maintenance as I really haven’t made a concerted effort to eat in a clean maintenance ever in my lifting career - it has always been a deficit or a massive cheat day. I feel like I want to make the most of these last two weeks on cycle and finally feel full/satiated after so many months of literally always being hungry. First few days of maintenance have been really nice for hunger, but have been considerably more tired, which is confusing to me as I would think more fuel means more energy?

Plans after this cycle are to take 8 weeks off cycle (read to take as much time off as on), during the off time I plan to continue in a deficit and try and drop as much fat as possible while continuing 5 days lifting per week. After those 8 weeks, I’d really like to run a true lean bulking cycle as I’ve never done that in my lifting career either, looking to add size and strength and will be looking for as many recommendations as possible on that.

Thank you for all of the information on this board, I’ve really enjoyed learning from the ladies on here and hoping that I can provide some results on here as well as contribute to the board with any knowledge I have on meds (I work in pharma) nutrition and training as I am very science-minded.

Something you said in your post has thrown me a little. Iv done a lot of research into anavar, and as far as I have read you don't have much water retention on var... also 5mg while it has happened from what I have read, its very uncommon to gain hairs, whilst on a low dose like this.
did you test your var?

Well done on your fab gains though. When on a cut you loose can muscle, so to maintain it while on a cut and even grow while gaining strength is awesome! Well done :)

In terms of the water retention, I have read that anavar can react differently in people. It isn’t what would be considered a “dry” compound, like winny. The retention is mainly anecdotal as my weight buoyed a little bit toward the beginning of the cycle and has not come back down, it’s continued to go up even in a reasonably large calorie deficit. This all points to some possible fluid retention, but I’ll have a better idea once I discontinue the cycle. I did test the Var prior to starting and it is definitely anavar. Also the hair is barely anything, maybe one or two on the underside of my chin which honestly I get anyways.

I really was wracking my brain for sides because I really don’t feel like the Anavar has negatively impacted me whatsoever. My strength has increased through a cut, I do think I’ve gained legitimate muscle also and I feel pretty good, if not a bit lethargic but I am only operating with about 20% of my thyroid gland left and have basically been tired for the last 13 years lol.

Also, if this is your first cycle I would recommend starting at 5mg per day, preferably in separate doses if possible but if not, 5mg an hour or two prior to your workout. Starting off the bat at 10 is a lot if you haven’t checked a lower dose for symptoms to appear.

I thought about starting on 5mg, but my thought process was something like...
If im going to get symptoms at 5mg, then im going to get them regardless. So thought might as well go with the 10 and see what happens. Obviously if I get major symptoms I will stop but I know 10mg is still low and a lot of people seem to up the 5mg dose soon after starting.

So jumped onto 10. Thanks for your advice though its greatly appreciated:)

Gaining strength on a cut really is cool! Can't wait to up mine lol
 
Ok, I’m back to do a wrap up and final impressions of the cycle. I’ve been off for a week now and the end measurements mad of yesterday are as follows-

Weight - 145.9lbs
Biceps - 13.125/13
Quads - 23.25/23
Waist - 31
Hips - 37

Final Lifts
Bench - 165x5
Squat - 245x4
Deadlift - 275x4

I had significant strength increases while being in a caloric deficit, and while I did switch up my training slightly, I attribute the majority of it to the Anavar. I dropped 10lbs in the week after stopping, which coincided with Thanksgiving but I attribute at minimum 3-4lbs to Var water weight.

This cycle absolutely helped with recomp based on my before and after pictures, my strength increases, and overall feeling of my body now being off for a week. My sides were very minimal in my opinion, no voice changes, slight increase an aggression (quicker to get irritated), small water retention that dropped quickly post cycle, maybe an extra hair or two here and there and some lethargy in the evenings.

All things considered, I found this cycle to be a huge success for me. I think if my diet was 100% on point (big cheats on the weekends) my recomp would have been even better. The strength increases when at a deficit were addicting and kept me super motivated in the gym.

My post cycle plan remains the same - I’ve been on track to drop about 1-1.5lbs per week of fat for the next 8 weeks and then I’ll be starting a lean bulking cycle. I have not decided yet if I want to give Anavar another go around for the bulk or something like Anadrol, but I have plenty of time to decide as both are on their way to me now.

Again, big thanks to the forums and the ladies here, I’ve learned a ton and continue to do so. If anyone has questions, I’m an open book!
