Hamstring King(sl deads or curls??)

EMG is most often spot on. So in the case presented above, perhaps a better way to look at it would be...........A lift that requires you to move your body, whilst performing the lift, will cause more stimulation/results, than that same lift done in a fixed position. Case in point, pull-ups vs. pull-downs, and countless others.

Use your muscles in the manner in which they were designed to be used?? Fascinating! :D Working your muscles in accordance with your physiology just makes more sense I think. As usual, excellent post Girth.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Romanian Deadlifts. My squats (olympic) and Cleans improved greatly once I added RDL's to my workout. After those, Glute/Ham Raises are my favorites.

Damn, good memory on the LA thing. I've pretty much moved back home to Phoenix. My job has me traveling a lot of the time, so there's no reason for me to have a place in LA if I'm never there, and they are letting me work out of Phoenix since that's the only way I'll stay with the company I'm with right now. What is EV, do you mean east valley. Where do you workout at?

I don't know. EMG studies if you believe in that sort of thing say otherwise in regards to SLDL's.

Hamstrings:
Seated leg curls - 88
Standing leg curls - 79
Lying leg curls - 70
Stiff Legged Deadlifts - 63

There's a difference between stimulating muscle fibers and being an effective exercise or causing muscular growth. Those electrode thingies stimulate tons of muscle fibers, but you won't be growing from using one.

But in many instances the EMG studies do give a pretty good indication of effectiveness. If you look at delt or bicep movements, dumbell and bar movements score in the 60-80s, while cable movements are lucky to hit 45.

I thought an EMG machine measured which exercises create the most muscle output.

Surface EMG (SEMG) involves placing the electrodes on (not into) the skin overlying the muscle to detect the electrical activity of the muscle, not stimulate. ;)

Grizz was talking about the electrical stimulation machines that you see in the back of muscle mags and are also used in severe cases of rehab. They cause very high activation of your muscles, but arent going to be effective for building muscle except for in basically muscle-less people.
