Mankind has been murdering animals for food for millennia. So has every other carnivorous species on the planet, except lions tend to hunt an animal down and begin tearing at it until it slows, then choke it alive, much better for the prey I’m sure
Correlation also not causation.
And exactly what about a vegetarian diet is better for the masses? If you’re gonna come in with that kind of statement you’d better have some facts.
the vast majority of vegetarian and vegans are deficient in tons of nutrients and have to supplement them. If your diet excludes items for moral reasons, or you have a health issue that makes certain things a bad idea, ok. I mean i don’t even care what someone else’s diet is. Their choice.
Until vegans and vegetarians are outliving omnivores by decades the concept of it being a superior diet is just speculation and a way of trying to add credibility to a dieting decision placed at best on moral grounds or at worst on being persuaded by falsehoods and fads. The number of people who believed the things said that in Gamechangers documentary was sad and depressing.
And you’re right. Political as fuck. But morally objecting to animal slaughter isn’t political. Its almost as if peolple with special interests fund media benefitting their special interests.
Plus, imagine wanting to live a year or two longer but never being able to eat a 24oz tomahawk? Oof. No thanks.
Vegans and Vegetarians typically should take an A-Z multivitamin everyday. Make sure they get enough iron, iodine, B12, Omega-3 EPA/DHA.
However it's a matter of balance for most people. Lets be honest, Americans are obese with huge slabs of blubber hanging off their sides. When the world is asked what comes to mind when you think of people from the United States....they usually say fat slob loud mouth.
The question of living longer on a diet has never been resolved because it's far too complex to nail down to a diet. It seems to be much more about genetics as we've all seen the guy that is 115 years old smoking and drinking hard liquor everyday, where's some people run and eat a very healthy diet and die at 55.
The CRON diet was said to show the best result for markers suggesting longevity, this being a calorie restriction optimized diet with a large variety of foods including animal products, with nutrient dense foods like seafood. However the founder of this dietary research, a pathologist, I believe died of cancer.
Eating in moderation appears to be the main approach to living longer with less complications. The Standard American Diet isn't good, sugar, salt, unhealthy processed fats, food that is almost completely devoid of any micronutrients.
As for the animal cruelty issue. If we go into some of these Asian wet markets and see live animals bashed over the head, crowded into small cages, skinned alive, thrown into a vat of hot water and boiled alive. I could link to a video containing these things with a dog being strung up by his neck and cooked alive with a torch while it yelps and screams out in pain. It's horrendous, but we also have to consider our own practices, industrialized slaughter houses in America are high volume places and as a result the animals are subjected to what many people consider cruelty(also workers mental health in these places aren't so great either). The people that argue against animal cruelty do have a valid position, even if Americans don't see the connection between their own species and other animals that are capable of fear and pain with a nervous system like our own.
The problem is both sides can't sit down and have a calm rational discussion. Like most things American, people cling to their own beliefs without evidence or they fund skewed research to support their beliefs.
Diets have been studied exhaustively by the NIH, the research is there, it's easy to obtain, but the NIH can't go around spreading this info as there are special interests that don't appreciate anyone letting someone know that you don't have to drink dairy for strong bones, calcium carbonate found in alternative milks has been shown to work better than dairy for building bone density.
The diet that does seem to fix more problems then just about any seems to be fasting, eating less food. We see this lowers blood pressure, dissolves plaque in arteries as the body uses this fat as a source of energy.
