Is it ethical to donate blood while on steroids?

I am O- and donate regularly. They test the blood before giving it to patients. Go take care of yourself, let the docs take care of the other patient.

Bro [emoji23]. I love donating. It’s not unethical man, it goes to the lab anymore to be tested to see if it’s green lighted for use. The days of old where they basically made tomato sauce with all the bloods and Sent them away are gone. Your fine bro, go get a oil change and your hematocrit levels will thank you. Cheers.

I’m almost certain they test the blood before giving it to someone else... if they don’t thats kinda fucked up.

I would be curious to see how someone’s blood tests for whatever they test for is for on vs off. I’d assume they’d flag you if something ever comes up too. So

My Red Cross wont take me if Im over a certain hematocrit number, its like 18> or over....

High crit gets flagged because they think you are dehydrated and usually they won't let you donate.

Low blood pressure would also be a no go. If your BP is slightly high, usually no biggie. If it is ridiculously high, they'd want you to seek medical attention.

And they do test blood to make sure you're not a hardcore junkie or diseased. Never heard of it being checked for aas. Or else none of us would be able to donate.

Yes they do test it before it ever even gets into the blood supply. However they want you to self disclose ahead of time, I assume for a few reasons.
1. Not putting clinic staff at risk
2. Not wasting time and money testing. Important if you already know you have something.

For me its hemoglobin they test for and it is 18. I was 17.5 last donation I need to take something to keep it under or I won't be able to donate

I believe you don't donate if you're on Accutane. I mean you can lie and say you're not on it. But if a pregnant woman gets your blood they could die, so that would be unethical.

I saw Accutane come up in a list of medicine that if you take them you can't donate, but death? I didn't know it was that serious

It won't kill anybody but can create birth defects which kinda is worse than death
