JayMaximus's First Meet Log

205x3 is some pretty heavy overhead pressing. Nice.

A few questions and recommendations:

What's your plan looking like leading up to this meet? Are you going to run a short peaking cycle or just lift like normal and deload a week before?

Start practicing your commands, too. Even if just in your head. Bench seems to be the toughest in following from what I've seen. Get some vids from the side on squat for depth as well. Gotta be prepared.

Might have to check out Arrow. I watch The 100 and Supernatural, I see those other shows advertised.

Good questions: my plan was to start a short peaking cycle next week. Drop some accessories, and focus more on the main lifts.

I definetely need to work on commands. When my car gets here tuesday im going to go to the PLing gym here and see about getting a coach. I saw on their FB page they have a few people going to the meet im doing, so hopefully i can get some help.

Ill get some vids of my big 3 next week.

Also Arrow is pretty good. I like Legends of tomorrow better (its a spin off of Arrow). But your probably need to watch arrow from the beggining. Its a super hero show, but not really super heroey.

There's no real evidence to support it, but hammer curls seem to help. I think it was the powerlifting thread where myself and a few others were talking about it. Might end up just needing a short deload though.

I thought about that. But i dont know if I have time with 5 weeks left, assuming the last week im doing minimal lifts before the meet.

10 April 2016

Debated whether to go in or stay home all day. Finally got up to go in. Went to the bus stop to catch the shuttle, waited about 30+ minutes(it supposedly comes every 20 minutes), and it never showed up. So I called and asked and the dispatcher said it shouldve been there a few times. Finally it showed up. The driver told me the other driver hadnt been out driving because he said no one ever got on. He appearantly had been doing this for awhile but no one had ever complained. He no longer has that job...oops

I have to be the only person who cant do rack pulls with a lot more weight than DLs. Without that explosion I have trouble getting all that weight up.

Skipped leg accessories due to time.

I can't pull much more off the rack than the floor either. I rarely do rack pulls though and my current deadlift PR is actually higher.

I can pull more off the rack than floor. I do em resting on safety bars where they're at my knee when squatted down in pull position.

It might just be positioning. I usually do them as low as possible on the rack and stand on a aerobic box or block. So its low enough where its hard to pull but high enough I cant get that initial "push"

That's what I do, lowest position in the rack is still too high. I'll stand on a couple bumpers to get the bar a couple inches below the knee.

For powerlifting purposes block pulls are far superior to rack pulls in my opinion because the bar starting on the safeties changes the mechanics of the movement so much. Block pulls are closer to a regular deadlift.

I do block pulls whenever possible. I wont lie. Rack pulls are just me being lazy. I always do them after back squats and its easier to put weight on without doing any work.

I am happy that my new gym has one of those DL thingys that help you get weights on and off.

Yeah, setting up for block pulls sucks. I put a couple small plates underneath aerobic platforms. My gym doesn't have a deadlift jack either, so it's a massive project to break down when you're all worn out from the sets.

Another thing I hate about rack pulls is how bouncy it gets. Throws me off trying to do reps. Someone needs to invent some big wagon wheel 45 plates for instant block pulls.

I dont know about you PA. Youre always spelling stuff right. You know its called a deadlift jack and not a thingy. You cant lift more than me and be smarter, its bad for my ego.

Im sure something could be done for block pulls. Maybe similar to the T Bar by hammer strength.

I think you've got me on bench and raw squat? My mom used to be an English teacher when I was a kid, so I'm kind of OCD with it spelling and grammar. I think years of auto type/auto correct has had a negative effect on it though. When I write for real I realize I've forgotten how to spell some words.

A couple oversized 45's of various, larger diameters would be perfect, then just slap on whatever other plates you want and instant block pulls. Kind of like using all 35's for deficit deadlifts. I should apply for a patent.

C'mon. We all know the only lift that matters is DL. The only reason we do the other stuff is because you cant DL everyday, all day...or can you?
